Coding less. Launching more.

I recently passed the one year mark with my team at 3Box Labs! It’s been an eye-opening journey between the code I’ve pushed, the team doubling in size, activity on our networks hitting the millions, dapps and social networks being built on Ceramic Network, and being the primary person responsible for all things platform across the company. So much has happened it’s hard to even remember where we were back when I started… ✨✨✨ I came on as lucky number 7 and the 4th non-founder employee. I was hired to work on platform, but I had pretty much no idea what that meant and during my interview process I was pretty frank about that. In my career what has typically served me (among many other factors known and unknown to me) is that I follow my curiosity and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, I know how to teach myself, I’ve learned to be unwavering in communicating what I want, and I’ve learned that I have to prove my worth in real-time. Before joining 3Box Labs, I learned how to deploy code at my previous company, but most of my platform related knowledge was developed just for fun during nights and weekends. I learned how to write and use Terraform modules and watched live streams on Twitch of a devops expert designing cloud infrastructure. When interviewing with the 3Box Labs team I asked to be considered for a software engineering position and they needed a platform engineer. Even after the time I spent reading articles intended to answer “what is a platform engineer” I still wasn’t really sure what I’d be doing by the time I accepted the offer. Let’s fast forward to now. In the past year working with an incredibly supportive team, here’s some of the things I’ve done as a platform engineer: - designed and configured a cloud environment for the 1st Ceramic network - wrote Docker files and CD pipelines to run our code on containers - wrote a logging framework for us to understand what our code is doing - built disaster recovery infrastructure - built integration test infrastructure - built monitoring infrastructure - wrote and deployed my first Go program - deployed the 2nd Ceramic network, Clay testnet - held my breath - wrote scripts and lambdas for deployments, alerts, and automated jobs - fixed bugs in Ceramic, fixed bugs in our anchor service, fixed bugs in our pipelines, fixed bugs in our config - put out many, many fires - deployed the 3rd Ceramic network, mainnet - wrote modules and docs to help other developers run Ceramic - interviews, interviews, and eventually learned how to lead more interviews - wrote specs, stories, initiatives, and a team charter You know—the list goes on. Now it’s time for us to keep growing, with more people, more code, and a bigger impact to meet an incredible vision for the evolution of the internet. Will you join me? Because we’re hiring!
