This Is Next Level Leadership... Post by Jackie Summers, CEO, Sorel "What Winning Feels Like So far this year, Sorel Liqueur has won 55 gold (or better) medals in international spirits competitions. We've received 2 BILLION media impressions, expanded our presence across the country, and have plans in place for international expansion. If you ask me how this feels, I'm not sure how to respond. Success can be defined many ways, all of them dependent on your values. That doesn't mean things like case sales, year over year growth, and profit margins don't matter; they're what keep you in business. It does mean that if you're looking for economic factors to weigh into your JOY, you are subject to factors beyond your control. In my company, joy is a KPI. 95% of the time I have no idea what the team is doing, and I don't want to know. Everyone has their directives. Everyone understands our ethos. From our branding to our official socio-political corporate policies to how we treat each interaction, whether it's industry or public facing: I don't have to think about what my team does. I have complete trust: whatever they're doing, they're doing it well. For all the ways to measure success, emotional reactions to my P&L sheet have never factored in. Assembling a team that has the acumen to execute your vision, AND shares your core values, may be the hardest part of any leader. It's no exaggeration for me to say: every member of my team is BETTER at their respective jobs, than I am at mine. To know this team trusts me to lead them feels better than any sales report."
