Whimsical mural. Here, as is often the case and as I frequently argue, it is the approach that makes the difference. Last week at Art Basel Miami Beach, the inauguration of Ralph Pucci's new art and design gallery took place—an expansive 10,000 square feet space in the Wynwood neighborhood of the city, in the Miami district, renowned for its vibrant street art, museums, and galleries. Pucci has been a pioneer in collectible design since the '70s. For the grand opening, veteran French designer and artist Élisabeth Garouste transformed the industrial facade of the building with a whimsical 100-foot mural called 'Strange Vegetations,' showcasing flora, facades, and cellular structures. It serves as the inaugural piece of the gallery's mural program. Ralph Pucci—and now also siblings Michael and Nicole Pucci, who are steering the company into its seventh decade—have wholeheartedly embraced the launch, reinforcing the gallery's dedication to "creative craftsmanship." I recently visited the stunning exhibition "Circle of Light" at Gropius Bau and I couldn't help but be captivated by the mesmerising round tubes and round holes by Nancy Holt. They have a captivating way of playing with the light in different moments of the day and also changes the perspective! 🌒🌓🌔🌕 For instance, when you look through this tube and catch a glimpse in the mirror, you witness yourself from an entirely distinct #perspective compared to any other point. The concept seems logical, but the actual impact it has is truly astonishing. This became so obvious when I attempted to capture this photograph... As I walked through the exhibition, these beautiful round tubes reminded me of something else: the round mirrors I used as wall decor.✨ The way the light reflected off the tubes created a mesmerising play of shadows and patterns, much like the way the mirrors enhanced the natural light in the apartment. It's incredible how art and design can make a difference and transform our surroundings and evoke different emotions. The exhibition offered a unique perspective, allowing me to see the world from a different point of view. It reminded me that even the simplest #objects can hold great beauty and significance when seen through the lens of #art. If you're in the area, I highly recommend visiting the "Circle of Light" exhibition. In a world of mass production, I take great delight in things made by hand and perfected by the artisan through skill and experience. That brought me to wonder about Art Deco and how it was used in Architectural design. I think the point was to create exclusivity by using talented craftsmen who could create unique pieces. To a great extent, Art Deco is epitomized by the works that were shown at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern and Industrial Decorative Arts), held in Paris in 1925. One example of a building facade is the Eastern Columbia Building. Have a stellar week ahead:))
