“It was really important to us leading this initiative that we include transparency as part of how these principles get enacted. That it’s not enough to have your moment to say, “I am committing to these,” but that you have to actually do the work, you have to actually show that you’re doing the work and share back with the public.” Dr. Rebecca Portnoff, Vice President of Data Science at Thorn, joined Lily Jamali on Marketplace Tech to discuss new design principles aimed at fighting child sexual abuse. Internet Watch Foundation: "A horrific new era of ultrarealistic, AI-generated, child sexual abuse images is now underway, experts warn. Offenders are using downloadable open source generative AI models, which can produce images, to devastating effects. The technology is being used to create hundreds of new images of children who have previously been abused. Offenders are sharing datasets of abuse images that can be used to customize AI models, and they’re starting to sell monthly subscriptions to AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM)." https://lnkd.in/ejYb_SYY

I don't want to see my children nude and abused online. Neither do you. 😣 This is not an easy post, but life is not easy. And I will keep repeating it as long as it takes - think twice before putting your kid's photos online. 🛑 The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is finding increasing number of cases of custom-trained #GenerativeAI generating content of #childabuse. Images of children who already suffered in reality once, are used to generate new variations. This magnifies their horror. It doesn't stop here: - tool are developed that can “nudify” pictures of clothed children found online. Yes - someone can take photos of YOUR children, strip them using AI, and sell online. - images of can be “de-aged” and then depicted as even younger children in sexual abuse scenarios. We can't stop bad actors, but we can stop feeding them. Stop Sharing Your Children Online. 🛑
AI-generated child sexual abuse images could flood the internet. A watchdog is calling for action.

Combatting child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is profoundly important work for Google. We’ve invested significant resources in building detection technology, training specialized teams and leading industry efforts to stop the spread of this harmful content. Today, we’re announcing our commitment to the Safety by Design Generative AI principles — developed by Thorn and All Tech is Human. These mitigations complement our existing work to prevent the creation, dissemination and promotion of AI generated child sexual abuse and exploitation. We’re proud to make this voluntary commitment — alongside our industry peers — to help make it as difficult as possible for bad actors to misuse generative AI to produce content that depicts or represents the sexual abuse of children.

Helpful, safe online environments don’t just happen — they’re designed, and combatting child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is profoundly important for Google and we've invested significant resources in building detection technology, training specialized teams and leading industry efforts to stop the spread of this harmful content. Today, we’re announcing our commitment to the Safety by Design Generative AI principles — developed by Thorn and All Tech is Human. These mitigations complement our existing work to prevent the creation, dissemination and promotion of AI generated child sexual abuse and exploitation, making it as difficult as possible for bad actors to misuse generative AI to produce content that depicts or represents the sexual abuse of children. Thought it's useful to highlight specific approaches and actions we're taking, these include: - Combatting AI generated child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), by proactively detecting and removing violative material through a combination of hash-matching technology, artificial intelligence classifiers, and human reviews. - Collaborating with child safety experts and industry partners including NGOs, industry peers/partners and law enforcement, and licensing our Child Safety Toolkit free of charge to help organisations identify and flag potentially abusive content for review. - Continually supporting stronger legislation with lawmakers and third party experts to work towards our shared goal of protecting kids online. AI-generated sexual images of children are a threat that needs to be tackled with the utmost 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. AI tools are being used to make huge amounts of sexual images of children, and we find ourselves at the start of an epidemic. "We’re not talking about the harm [AI-generated images] might do,” said Dan Sexton, @IWFhotline chief technology officer.“ This is happening right now and it needs to be addressed right 𝗻𝗼𝘄.” Read the full article below

The AI-Generated Child Abuse Nightmare Is Here | WIRED: A report from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) reveals that offenders are using open-source generative AI models to create ultrarealistic child sexual abuse images. These AI-generated images depict heinous acts of abuse against children, including babies and famous preteens. Criminals are sharing datasets of abuse images and selling subscriptions to AI-generated child sexual abuse material. The IWF and other organizations warn that the speed of development and potential for new forms of abusive content are alarming. The problem is widespread and likely much larger than reported so far. - Artificial Intelligence topics! #ai #artificialintelligence #intelligenzaartificiale

We're calling for international collaboration and partnership to deal with this challenge. What AI creates, we're hopeful AI can solve. Read our report which will give you the most up-to-date look at how AI is being abused to create photorealistic child sexual abuse images. It contains verbatim comments from people discussing the creation of this (illegal) material in the dark web, as well as verbatim comments from our analysts around the challenges of dealing with it. You'll read about: *The generating of hundreds of new AI CSAM images based upon known victims; *The generating of AI CSAM from images of children in non-abusive situations; *Children as creators; *De-aging of celebrities to make them look childlike and depicting them in sexually abusive contexts; *Likenesses of famous children in sexual abuse situations; *The commercialisation of this imagery. As one perpetrator on a dark web forum summarised: · Users can create images on their own devices; · Everything can be custom-made and edited to specification; · AI CSAM can show what is impossible in the real world; · It is very secure; · AI is always getting better.
🚨Thousands of AI-generated images depicting children, some under two years old, being subjected to the worst kinds of sexual abuse have been discovered, amid warnings abuse of the technology now threatens to “overwhelm” the internet. Our CEO, Susie Hargreaves OBE, said: “Our worst nightmares have come true. Earlier this year, we warned AI imagery could soon become indistinguishable from real pictures of children suffering sexual abuse, and that we could start to see this imagery proliferating in much greater numbers. We have now passed that point.” Ahead of the forthcoming AI Summit, we are calling for greater collaboration on how to deal with this content internationally and encourage ongoing partnerships between nations to address this threat.
