Internet Watch Foundation: "A horrific new era of ultrarealistic, AI-generated, child sexual abuse images is now underway, experts warn. Offenders are using downloadable open source generative AI models, which can produce images, to devastating effects. The technology is being used to create hundreds of new images of children who have previously been abused. I don't want to see my children nude and abused online. Neither do you. 😣 This is not an easy post, but life is not easy. And I will keep repeating it as long as it takes - think twice before putting your kid's photos online. 🛑 The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) is finding increasing number of cases of custom-trained #GenerativeAI generating content of #childabuse. Images of children who already suffered in reality once, are used to generate new variations. This magnifies their horror. It doesn't stop here: - tool are developed that can “nudify” pictures of clothed children found online. Yes - someone can take photos of YOUR children, strip them using AI, and sell online. - images of can be “de-aged” and then depicted as even younger children in sexual abuse scenarios. We can't stop bad actors, but we can stop feeding them. Stop Sharing Your Children Online. 🛑

We’ve invested significant resources in building detection technology, training specialized teams and leading industry efforts to stop the spread of this harmful content. Today, we’re announcing our commitment to the Safety by Design Generative AI principles — developed by Thorn and All Tech is Human. These mitigations complement our existing work to prevent the creation, dissemination and promotion of AI generated child sexual abuse and exploitation. We’re proud to make this voluntary commitment — alongside our industry peers — to help make it as difficult as possible for bad actors to misuse generative AI to produce content that depicts or represents the sexual abuse of children.

Thought it's useful to highlight specific approaches and actions we're taking, these include: - Combatting AI generated child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), by proactively detecting and removing violative material through a combination of hash-matching technology, artificial intelligence classifiers, and human reviews. - Collaborating with child safety experts and industry partners including NGOs, industry peers/partners and law enforcement, and licensing our Child Safety Toolkit free of charge to help organisations identify and flag potentially abusive content for review. - Continually supporting stronger legislation with lawmakers and third party experts to work towards our shared goal of protecting kids online. AI-generated sexual images of children are a threat that needs to be tackled with the utmost 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. AI tools are being used to make huge amounts of sexual images of children, and we find ourselves at the start of an epidemic. The AI-Generated Child Abuse Nightmare Is Here | WIRED: A report from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) reveals that offenders are using open-source generative AI models to create ultrarealistic child sexual abuse images. These AI-generated images depict heinous acts of abuse against children, including babies and famous preteens. Criminals are sharing datasets of abuse images and selling subscriptions to AI-generated child sexual abuse material. The IWF and other organizations warn that the speed of development and potential for new forms of abusive content are alarming.
