Last night marked the 103rd year of the ADC Awards, where the atmosphere was electric as we celebrated alongside our esteemed award winners and judges, reflecting on a year of exceptional work. And now, the moment we've all been waiting for: the crowning of Best of Show.
AdLam by McCann New York for Microsoft, created for the Fulani people, preserves their language amidst extinction threats. Microsoft's collaboration digitized AdLam, making it accessible on over 1 billion devices. This led to local businesses flourishing and new schools emerging. Microsoft's commitment extends to educational materials and governmental recognition in Mali and Guinea. AdLam's future shines bright with plans to teach it to millions of children, securing its legacy as a beacon of language and cultural preservation.

The Fulani people of West Africa are the world's largest nomadic group. Polar, Their native tongue had always been a spoken language but didn't have an alphabet. Forced to use other alphabets, illiteracy grew while their language and traditions began to vanish. Two young brothers, Ibrahima and Abdoulaye Barry. Refused to accept it and letter by letter, created an alphabet for their people, but it only existed in a handwritten form, making it useless in the digital world. We would close our eyes and draw shapes based on the sounds of our language. Working in partnership with the Berry Brothers, Microsoft completed the encoding of the alphabet. Page on the computer is so fundamental, if you don't have that, you just shut off from the world that we function in the community feedback revealed that major revisions were needed in order to make the alphabet easier to read and write. It takes hundreds of years for letter forms to take their final forms, but Microsoft is helping us speed that process. Working with typeface experts, we revised the letter forms of the alphabet, creating a new and optimized version. The alphabets new design was inspired by Fulani visual culture. Making it easier for the community to embrace it. The inspiration for these forms was found in the patterns in traditional Fulani textiles. We launched with the community on Microsoft 365 and brought it to over 1 billion computers worldwide. With this new access, the Fulani people are using it everywhere. The first Adlem dictionary was created, and in a historical decision, the Mali government is recognizing Adlem as an official alphabet of donation. Satellite.
