He will cycle over 3,500 km throughout #Canada. Is he insane? Crazy? No! - I'd answer. Karsten is an inspiration to all of us who strive to strengthen civil societies around the world. We are currently witnessing an era with one catastrophe chasing another. However, we, the people, have the power to unite and to support those who are committed to fighting for just societies and a better world - whether it is volunteers of professionals in #NGOs. In doing so, we need to strengthen leaders in non-profit organizations, equip them with appropriate and adequate tools to help them inspire others! Access to education and training is often denied due to financial burden. This is a problem, we can actually solve and it takes people like Karsten who are raising awareness. So let's do it!

Charity shouldn't be conditional. We will plant trees if you buy from us. We'll match your donations. We'll pass on X% of our profits to the *insert name* cause. Many businesses on the market do a lot of good to their industries; no doubt. What truly intrigues me is the way their charitable work is at times dependant on the customers' generosity in the first place. I understand the bigger impact can be potentially achieved by matching donations or proportionate donating but there must be more people like me who think to themselves: good work starts at home. I run a company that happened to be in the cycling industry; a small independent business supporting the grass root level cycling. We, as a company, give away approx. £20kpa to places/projects that don't even ever get noticed/considered by the big guys. We do this NOT IF/WHEN people shop with us but BECAUSE they choose us. That makes others consider doing the same and the scene grows... I'd like to see more companies doing better things with their money they consider as spare. The talent needs nurturing; that will bring more future talent and more future customers.

This is not only a problem for those undertaking big adventures. It’s something that the majority of us deal with, thinking that we can’t or won’t be able to enjoy an adventure (big or small) because we don’t own all of the kit. This is CRAZY. The amount of camping, mountaineering, trail running, cycling, surfing, canoeing, paddle boarding equipment in circulation is more than enough for everyone. Every day we see more being listed on KitUp for others to rent. This is the way forwards. It saves us all a lot of money and is far more sustainable. Well done Sophia Dancygier, what an achievement!
