February is Black History Month, a nationally-recognized time for reflecting on the incredible courage, contributions, and resilience of Black Americans throughout history. While a single month is not sufficient to fully appreciate all that Black culture has offered America, I believe this month provides a valuable opportunity to amplify Black voices, confront hard truths, and renew our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and racial justice. My hope is that this February, we make time to explore untold stories of trailblazers and activists who paved the way, as well as emerging leaders of today. We have so much to gain by understanding diverse lived experiences. Some examples are reading books written for and by the Black community, spotlighting the accomplishments of Black scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs, creatives and so many making phenomenal contributions. I challenge myself and each of you to ponder where we still fall short in terms of inclusion, where we must check assumptions, and what actions we can take - beyond this one month - to move towards healing some deep wounds while unlocking incredible human potential. The work is not one month, but every day, every decision, every interaction with empathy, nuance and patience. Wishing you a thoughtful and productive Black History Month as we reflect and make progress together. Please share recommendations on how we as a community can promote equality in tangible ways. Where do you think we need to put more focus, more urgency? I welcome your perspectives. #BlackHistoryMonth #CelebratingLegacy #InclusionMatters #DiversityInAction

🎉 Kicking off Black History Month with a Commitment to Change! 🎨 Did you know this year's theme for Black History Month is "African Americans and the Arts"? 🌟 As we celebrate, I'm diving deep into a journey of understanding and allyship, beginning with a crucial topic: White Fragility. As a white male, I'm conscious of my position and the need to listen, learn, and support without overshadowing the voices and experiences that need to be heard. Art and music, richly contributed to by African Americans, have shaped our culture and history in profound ways. Yet, the full story and its complexities are often overlooked. 📚 This month, I've committed to educating myself further, starting with "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo. And yes, "How to be an Antiracist" and "The AntiRacist Business Book" are up next on my reading list! Tip: Start your journey with one book or resource that challenges your perspective. It's about taking that first step. Try: Engage in conversations with an open heart and mind. Listen more than you speak. Act: Support black artists, educators, and businesses. Let's amplify their voices and contributions. Let's embrace this month as an opportunity to grow, challenge our preconceptions, and take actionable steps toward a more inclusive and understanding workplace and society. What's the first action you'll take this Black History Month? #BlackHistoryMonth #Inclusion #Allyship #DiversityAndInclusion #CulturalAppreciation #LearnAndGrow 🌍✊

🌍 Celebrating Black History Month and Building an Inclusive Society! 🖤🌟 As we embrace the spirit of unity and inclusivity during Black History Month, let's take a moment to reflect upon the incredible successes and recognize the work that still lies ahead. 🎉✨ Black History Month has served as a powerful platform to honor the achievements, contributions, and resilience of the black community throughout history. It has enabled us to appreciate the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our society and recognize the immense value of diversity. Together, we have celebrated the phenomenal accomplishments of black trailblazers, artists, activists, inventors, and leaders who have shaped our world. However, we must acknowledge that the journey towards true equality and inclusion is far from complete. To build a better society where people of colour thrive, we need to foster an environment that continuously promotes diversity, dismantles systemic barriers, and amplifies the voices of marginalized communities. 🌍🤝 #BlackHistoryMonth #InclusionMatters #EqualityForAll #BuildingABetterSociety

ProvenBase celebrates Black History Month. Let's take a moment to honor the rich tapestry of achievements, resilience, and contributions that Black individuals have woven into the very fabric of our society. This month isn't just a time for reflection; it's a beacon for the future, illuminating paths toward equality, justice, and unity. From the profound impact of leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who dreamed of a world where his children would be judged by the content of their character, to the groundbreaking scientific contributions of Katherine Johnson, whose calculations propelled humanity into space, Black history is filled with stories of triumph, courage, and determination. Let's also celebrate the unsung heroes—teachers, artists, activists, and everyday individuals whose names might not be in the headlines but whose strength and spirit continue to inspire change and progress. Their legacies are a testament to the power of resilience and the belief that, despite obstacles, a brighter future is possible. Black History Month is more than just a time to look back; it's an opportunity to recognize the ongoing contributions of the Black community in every field, from science and technology to literature and the arts. It's a call to action for all of us to commit to understanding, respect, and equality, ensuring that the voices of Black individuals are heard, valued, and celebrated today and every day. As we commemorate this month, let us all pledge to be allies in the fight against racism and inequality, to educate ourselves and others, and to build a world that truly reflects the diversity and beauty of the human family. 🌟 Embracing Black History Month: A Simple Acknowledgment 🌟 As we celebrate Black History Month, let's take a moment to reflect on the profound power of a simple yet impactful message: "I see you, you exist, and you are valid." 🌈✊🏿 Acknowledging the richness of Black history is not just about recognizing achievements and milestones; it's about validating the experiences, struggles, and resilience that have shaped the narrative. Every individual's story contributes to the vibrant tapestry of our collective history. If you’re looking to make a change to honour Black History Month, there are some great ways to go about it. For example, consider: - Intentionally supporting Black-owned businesses (through Google, you can find a database of companies in your area); - Getting involved with your organization's Black or POC ERGs - it’s likely they will have programming throughout the month and also need active allies throughout the year; - Adding Black authors to your reading list (here are some for consideration that we enjoyed: https://ow.ly/RUTN50QwBsX) - Educating your kids by getting them involved in fun Black History Month activities (here are some great ones: https://ow.ly/FIbK50QwBsW) #makeachange #blackhistorymonth #awareness #DEI #inspireinclusion

#blackhistorymonth The UK is currently celebrating Black History Month. A time to honour the rich heritage, achievements, and contributions of black individuals throughout history, for example: Mary Seacole, Dame Jocelyn Barrow, Doreen Lawrence, John Archer, Claudia Jones, David Lammy, Stuart Hall , Baroness Valerie Amos, and Sir Lenny Henry. These individuals represent just a fraction of the countless people who have made indelible marks on the history and progress of the UK and their contributions continue to inspire and pave the way for future generations. Abraham Laker FRTPI FRSA (Associate Partner) reflects on what Black History Month means to him . . . Being of Ugandan heritage, my parents were instrumental in teaching me and my brother about our origins, history, and the influential Ugandan individuals (monarchs, presidents, politicians, religious leaders, inventors, scientists, sports personalities, and musicians) that have made both good and bad contributions to society and the world. Knowing one’s history is so important as it has equipped me with an understanding of the past and allows me to understand patterns in the present. From my perspective, my culture and history is celebrated all year round through the food I consume, the music I listen to, the books I read, and the conversations I have with my family members. Nevertheless, Black History Month provides the opportunity to focus the mind and reflect, educate, and celebrate the wide-reaching impact that black communities across the world have had in the face of great adversity. At Rapleys, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered and, in celebration of Black History Month, it is essential we work together to create a future where diversity is celebrated, equality is achieved, and opportunities are accessible for all. Rapleys have an active diversity and inclusivity working group, who foster and promote diversity across the company. During Black History Month this group will be recommending to staff, a wide range of books and media celebrating black voices and stories through the company’s internal portal to further reflect on, educate and celebrate Black History Month. As Black History Month comes to a close, we are thinking about how we carry the practices we focused on this month into the rest of the year. Ashley Andersen, MSW, SVP of ClearEdge Rising shared a post this month about the importance of seeking out books written by black authors and scholars. You can (and should) read her full post about it at the link in our comments, and here are a few other actions we’re taking along with us 👇 ✨ Supporting Black led organizations like Women of Color in Staffing ✨ Reflecting on our own privilege and finding the courage to engage in difficult conversations ✨ Engaging with Black founded businesses such as Diversiology.IO Black History Month allows us to shine a light on the historical significance and impact of the Black community and engage in conversations around racial equity and justice. As we move into the rest of the year, may the spark of Black History Month be an igniting force around how important it is for us to always be striving toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. What are you planning on taking into the rest of the year with you? #BlackHistoryMonth #DEIB #BookStack #staffingindustry #leadershipdevelopment
