The relationship between senior public servant and minister is often not straight forward. As Robodebt shows, it can be fraught with perceived power imbalance, misaligned motivations and confused roles. It helps to talk about the challenges openly. That’s why I’m grateful to my friends and former ministers Kate Jones (Labor) and Scott Emerson (LNP) for agreeing to discuss the question of “What’s really on a minister’s mind” as part of the department’s* leadership program. We are the *Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and we believe public service is a verb. #frankandfearless #robodebtlessons #publicservice

Democratic-led states are choosing a district superintendent or administrator for the top education job more than half of the time. Republican-led states are more varied in their choices, but most frequently choose SEA administrators, district leaders and those with political backgrounds.   Democrats may choose this way in an attempt to convey alignment with local educators, while Republicans are split between most frequently choosing district administrators and SEA administrators. As we deal with a changing education system in a post-covid, AI-generated world; the backgrounds and experiences of state superintendents will play an important role in the direction of education policy in each state. Am just saying, in our request for the professionalization of sports in our country, it is becoming clear that this route that we have taken cannot unfold in isolation from crucial factors such as funding, governance, leadership, infrastructure, and education. Am just saying a lot of us are calling for the evolution of sports into a professional space, a critical examination of our own actions as advocates reveals a significant gap between rhetoric and practice. https://lnkd.in/eitmP-9C
