Following on from Employee Ownership Day on Friday, the Employee Ownership Association revealed that the employee-owned business sector has experienced remarkable growth, doubling in size over the past two years. This significant expansion can be attributed to forward-thinking business leaders who recognise the incredible potential of employee ownership. By embracing this model, they have witnessed a boost in productivity, improved staff retention, and reduced absenteeism rates Research has also revealed that employee-owned businesses consistently surpass their competitors in terms of productivity, staff retention, and absenteeism rates. Since becoming employee-owned, between 2020 and 2022 Horizon Platforms has seen revenue growth of approximately 60%. After becoming an employee-owned company in January 2023, all members of the MM-Eye team have a voice in shaping how the business is run and share in the profits we generate. We contribute ideas through our employee councils and have an employee representative on the Trust Board, which oversees our Operational Board. #EmployeeOwned #EmployeeOwnership #Insight #PositiveChange

Did you know the UK is the global pioneer in something pretty damn cool? 👇😎💂♂️🇬🇧🌍👇 It’s called employee ownership, more specifically employee ownership trust (EOT). I recently published a post about it on Forbes. It was one of the most challenging post I have ever written, not because of the topic itself, but due to Forbes' high standards (see link in the comments for more). What is an EOT? In case anyone isn't unaware, we sold NOVOS to the staff in March 2022 using the EOT model (link in my profile if you want to read more) Over the next three weeks, I will explore this form of business ownership and the broader topic through a series of posts. The series of post will cover the following: 1️⃣ This week: Forbes article; The global state of play of employee ownership 2️⃣ Next week: What Forbes wouldn’t let me write (personal opinions and insights) 3️⃣ Week after: Our experience of running an EOT company now we’re 18 months in This weeks post is all about the state of EOTs across the world and what this means for the business and it’s staff. Here’s a top line summary of the article: 🌐 EOTs across the world 🌐 - In the context of stakeholder capitalism, the EOT model provides a unique approach to ensure that business leaders are accountable to their staff and also to distribute the business wealth among staff members not just to shareholders at the top. - In the US, a more favourable employee-owned model is an ESOP, which is similar to a pension model. As of March this year, Tennessee became the first state to officially recognise and offer support to EOT businesses, similar to the UK model. - Australia welcomed their first EOT business in 2021 💼 Benefits to businesses 💼 - When businesses start to consider the future of their employees, the legacy of the company, and their overall commitment to the workforce, they may explore the option of employee ownership. This route allows employees to have a stake in the business and fosters a sense of ownership and dedication to both the company and the local communities. - When it comes to succession planning EO businesses have a big advantage over the traditional M&A sale route 👨👨👧👦 Benefits to staff 👨👨👧👦 - Employee ownership benefits staff with empowerment, self-esteem, and a sense of value in working for a business they have a voice in and benefit from financially each year. This naturally boosts productivity and long-term thinking. - Not to mention tax free annual bonus’ (more on this in next weeks post) If you want to read more about employee ownership see my post in the comments. Follow me for next weeks update where i’ll be sharing what Forbes wouldn’t let me write about employee ownership... : 👀 😄 Forbes Agency Council Forbes #employeeownership #eo #entrepreneur
