Dear network, A great summer has come to an end (although I hope the rest of August will bring more sunshine). For many years I have been thinking about taking on an interim role, so when I left Hasbro I decided to explore these opportunities. It could be a good way to build on my skills and gain new experiences until I find my next job. I heard about a person in my network who had a vacancy and re-employment was not an option at the moment. We started discussing the case and what actions were needed before a re-employment could take place. As my background was a good fit, I was given the opportunity to do my first assignment as an interim consultant. My role was mainly to refine the Nordic sales strategy, define and implement clear processes for contracts, optimize sales processes, improve sales management tools and drive sales excellence initiatives. The project was a good mix between strategy and tactics. However, the project is coming to an end and I will soon leave with a satisfied customer. So what happens next? I don't believe in the saying, "You can't teach old dogs new tricks". I was cleaning my closet and found my old ID from 2015, the last hotel job I had. It made me look back at my journey, from sales executive in Discovery Shores Boracay to working remotely as market development executive in Cloudbeds. Today, I am merely an individual contributor, and not running a team like I once did. Younger colleagues would sometimes consult me for advice, not because I've been in the company longer, but because I was already working in the hotel industry while they were still in high school 😂 What my younger colleagues didn't know is that we are all on equal footing, because even if I've been in this industry long enough, there are still a lot of things I want to learn, to improve my craft. This is where my good friend Yusuf Putra (from Cloudbeds Growth Enablement Team) comes in. For several sessions we studied how I did my presentations and how I can improve. We talked about what else I can do better, because at the end of the day, our main goal is to be able to help our customers better, to address their challenges with the help of technology. So yes, old dogs like me can learn new tricks. Old dogs are less distracted and have more focus. With the right attitude, old dogs can thrive in tech.

Chances are that it would be some place like a gas station, a retail store, etc... & unfortunately, something that happens within those places sometimes is that those given the title of "Manager" then act as if they own you, they are better then you, & the title goes right to their head! I don't agree with trying to "hack" life as a short-cut, but if hiring managers put more time thinking about HOW to interview people, and not just WHO to interview, then companies would build much better teams!
