MPW is 50
In September 1973, three graduates from the University of Cambridge – Sir Nicholas Mander, Rodney Portman and Robert Woodward – realised a shared ambition. That ambition was to bring the fundamentals that shaped their own educational experience, delivered by their prestigious alma mater, to school age students. Their vision comprised small classes, a strong tutorial system and superb teaching, all set within an informal atmosphere. Fifty years on, these fundamentals are still the hallmarks of an MPW education. As we approach this significant milestone in MPW’s history, we are looking forward to celebrating the amazing achievements of our alumni, students, and tutors over the last five decades. Whether you are an MPW alum, or a former member of staff, we would love to hear from you. Share your memories with us (including any photos or memorabilia) by emailing [email protected]. Look out for updates via our social channels and website to find out more about the exciting initiatives we have planned for our fiftieth year.

Introducing a #National #Olympiad for teachers can be a #beneficial initiative for several reasons. Firstly, it provides a #platform for #educators to showcase their #skills, #knowledge, and teaching methodologies. This can lead to the identification and #recognition of exceptional teachers who go above and beyond in #fostering effective learning environments. Secondly, the Olympiad can serve as a #professional #development opportunity. Teachers participating in such events would likely #engage in extensive preparation, which could enhance their subject knowledge and #pedagogical techniques. The #collaborative nature of preparation might also foster a sense of community among educators, #promoting the #exchange of best practices. Moreover, a National Olympiad for teachers can inspire a culture of #continuous improvement in education. As teachers strive to excel in the competition, they may #adopt #innovative teaching strategies and stay updated with the latest educational trends. This ripple effect can positively impact the overall #quality of education in the country. Furthermore, the Olympiad could contribute to the overall #motivation and #morale of teachers. Recognition for their efforts through a national-level competition can boost teacher #confidence and job #satisfaction. Feeling valued in their profession, educators are likely to be more #motivated to invest in their students' #success. STTAR - Saamarthya Teachers Training Academy of Research

Yesterday, we launched the third report in our series on 'The Future of Quality in England', this time looking how the detail of the LLE can meet its ambition. To achieve this, we're recommending: 🎯Embedding greater flexibility - by removing the requirement for modules to be drawn from parent programmes and lowering the credit threshold to 10 credits to open up the scope and create a more agile offer; 🎯 Greater use of sector expertise - including the Credit Framework for England, so that elements such as credit transfer have a supporting infrastructure but protect institutional autonomy; 🎯 Gathering evidence before we decide how to measure quality - we don't know the full answer to what metrics will best measure quality at a modular level, so let's gather evidence on learner demand, sector response and progression pathways before we hold providers to arbitrary measures. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/escz7BXQ
QAA's Helena Vine has written a blog for the Higher Education Policy Institute to accompany our latest policy paper. She argues that while the Lifelong Learning Entitlement can be revolutionary, its policy detail shackles its ambition. Read more below 👇 https://lnkd.in/ezjNkvqD
