Once you take a break from something, it takes extra time and effort to get back into it. I had been competing in ballroom Latin 💃 since 2004, but I stopped competing after Blackpool in 2019. I was on and off since then, but then I took a year and a half of break until last October. In order for me to get back into competitions, I need to have choreo routines for five dances, and more importantly, I need to build stamina to dance five dances, back to back, and keep going round after round. My short-term goal is to have three dances down by the end of April, and participate in a showcase. And my midterm goal is to have all five dances ready for a competition in November. Each dance is 1 minute 15 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds, and 15 sec break in between and you need to dance five dances back to back. So I started to train for that. I ran for 1 minute and 15 seconds, and took a 45sec walking break. Repeat x3. I will be increasing the intensity gradually. For anything you do, whether it’s dancing, or skating, or speaking, if you wanna do that thing well, you need to dedicate the majority of your time and effort to build a solid foundation. Would you like to learn the tricks of the curling sport with colleagues and teammates? Come attend a clinic and learn to practise the techniques, explain the game and play matches! Of course, combine the clinic with a mulled wine or Dutch stew buffet afterwards. Costs: from 29.5 p.p. (8-12 pp) or 27.5 (13-20 pp). Minimum number of attendees: 8 persons If the Curling Option wins, we will send you tikkies and arrange a group pass. After this clinic, we can enjoy a hot chocolate or a beer together. First round is on the house. Option-2: Free skating: Either Fun Track or 400-meter Speed Skating Track How about a fun after-work evening with free skating? Do you want to skate but need company? We got your back! We can meet up at the entrance of Schaatsbaan Rotterdam and enjoy an evening full of skating together. We don’t need a group pass for this option and the entry ticket is only €8.5. Roller skating is becoming increasingly popular in the Philippines and in recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the sport, thanks in part to social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which have featured videos of people roller skating to popular music. This is where my interest in roller skating has come from and I love it. It is a great way to get exercise. It is a fun and social activity. It is a great way to relieve stress. It is a good way to improve balance and coordination. It is a low-impact activity, which means it is easy on the joints. Deeper Edges, Deeper Clarity When I get nervous my muscles tighten up and it makes it harder for me to get deep into my edges when I’m skating. Now, why is getting deep into those edges such a game-changer? Well, it's all about stability—whether I'm just skating around, spinning or jumping. A key part of making sure that I am able to land jumps is taking off properly. Deeper edges offer the foundation for power and height, especially when I manage to really carve into the ice just before taking off into a jump. Deeper edges also need to have direction. When jumping it helps to look in the direction I’m going to go in when I start to jump. Sure, I can still land jumps on a really good day if the takeoff isn't textbook-perfect, but the odds aren't in my favor. It's the same in our work environments. Deeper clarity at the start, both in understanding our team's mission and the needs of our end users and where they may be heading in the near future, is the key to delivering projects that truly make an impact. If you frequent skating rinks like I do this time of year, you have probably seen skaters and hockey players doing warm-ups before they hit the ice. I see athletes chanting, dancing to music, doing stretches and going for team laps around the rink. What I find interesting is that we often forget to do our own kind of warm-up before speaking. We haven't primed or prepped the body for something (that most of us) don't do everyday. In my recent public speaking groups, we have opened the group with a warm-up to set the tone and shake off the jitters. We pick an upbeat song and create a list of 10 warm-ups that include postural exercises, vocal warm-ups, breathwork, and intuitive movements. Has it been awkward? Yes. Has it been fun? Yes. Are we learning to take ourselves less seriously? Yes.
