Today is #WorldBeeDay 🐝 20 May coincides with the birthday of Anton Janša, who in the 18th century pioneered modern beekeeping techniques in his native Slovenia. The United Nations designated this date as World Bee Day to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face, and their contribution to sustainable development. Visit le.ac.uk/sustainability to find out more about our efforts to increase biodiversity on campus. Simple ways we as individuals can help bees: • Planting bee-friendly gardens • Letting (parts of) your garden grow wild • Avoiding chemicals that can harm bees • Creating bee habitats like bee hotels • Helping to raise awareness #CitizensOfChange #SaveTheBees

Biodiversity keeps ecosystems healthy. @lykapetfood works hard to boost biodiversity. Their reforestation efforts have led to the preservation of native species, including: 🐨Strzelecki koalas 🐦Southern emu-wrens 🪱the giant Gippsland earthworm Lyka also sources a broad selection of ingredients that aren’t often used in mainstream products, which also boosts biodiversity. By being part of the Lyka community, you’re also supporting the reforestation of native plants and bird life. Get 30% off your first Lyka box here: https://bit.ly/3GqwNZF

Biodiversity is declining. We need to act urgently to ensure the preservation of the diverse ecosystems we all rely on, now and for generations to come. With One Planet, Solvay has committed to reducing pressure on biodiversity and preserving local ecosystems. And we are taking concrete steps. I am proud that the IUCN has recognized our nature conservation efforts in Paulínia, Torrelavega, and Rosignano as initiatives going above and beyond to protect nature and biodiversity. Our Paulínia site coexists with 254 different fauna species. In Rosignano, our Santa Luce Lake Nature Reserve serves as a sanctuary for over 2,000 diverse plant and animal species. And the thousands of native trees planted in Torrelavega have helped transform a former quarry into a thriving bird sanctuary. We continue to develop and implement roadmaps that will enable more of our sites to integrate our presence into local environments and communities in a manner that improves the quality of life for all. Let’s continue to build a better future, together. https://bit.ly/4658OKO #BioDiversity #Sustainability #SolvayOnePlanet #Conservation

Bringing people and sectors together on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for a greener, healthier, more inclusive world where nature thrives.
If you are lucky enough to have access to outdoor space you can manage, here are ten tips to reduce your carbon footprint. A balcony or windowsill may be enough to achieve two or more of these. If you have absolutely no outdoor space, ask a friend, relative, work colleague or local school if you can "garden" their spaces. #sustainability #gardens #LondonOpenGardens

UN Biodiversity World Economic Forum European Commission Global Warming is a global problem that requires global solutions - otherwise we will never get rid of this problem! A solution like this English one is at least as ineffective as the measures taken by other countries in the EU - together! For 2 essential reasons. 1) if not ALL citizens do the maximum, then the overall effect disappears in the jubilation over even more state-recommended blah blah blah! 2) All countries in the EU are affected by the drought that occurs when the neighbor to the south of the Mediterranean "Sahara" is not cooled, but is simply allowed to continue pumping hot air out to the entire region on a daily basis. But because the Sahara is so far outside the EU's economic zone, there is no interest in doing something effective about that problem. There is only one effective solution, use the EU budget to procure technology to desalinate the rising seawater at a price UNDER 0.5 kWh + €0.10 per 1,000 liters and use this source of freshwater to green all desert and drought affected land areas. If you lack inspiration on how, read our long series of nine articles on how. You can find it via "articles" on my profile.
