5 Ways to Source Female Software Developers In order to increase the representation of female software developers, companies have been supporting and participating in programs like Girls Who Code, Black Girls Code, and TechGirlz. Such initiatives are great in the long-term, but what about companies who want to increase representation in the near-term? There are more direct and timely ways to source female software developers. Here are five of them. https://buff.ly/41inNj5 #diversity #DEI #inclusion

Code switching describes not just language and tone but also dress, and behavior. This practice is something many members of oppressed groups share with each other, even if we don't always bond over it as we could. Black America has had many shades of dialect over the regions and years. As have had the Singaporeans. And the Nigerians. Each of these stories matters, along with the rest of the stories of our global reckoning with the myriad social traumas of colonialism and imperialism. When we hear about code switching, we're reminded about Queer experience and how "the closet" is a deep kind of code-switching for many of us. Many of us show up at school or work or even at home in ways that hide our values, talents, perspectives, creativity, wisdom, and joy. Jaylene's spoken-work performance is not just a reminder how much we've been holding back. It's also a subtle nod to our potential as we step out of our various closets together, into becoming, community, and joy. #CodeSwitching #JayleneClarkOwens #QBF

"We are the first global movement helping young women & girls learn how to #code. It's really amazing to see a young girl in 50-degree heat in a refugee camp learning how to code because #technology has no race, no gender, no age, no class." Being a woman👩💻 in a man-dominated field such as Software Development can easily make you mimicking male energy and behavior. But in reality your unique feminine energy can become a booster for your team and your professional development. Last week I was delighted to join an amazing Tech event Code Pub for women and other underrepresented genders organized by Netlight&Choco. It became a good reminder for myself that: ✨ I am not alone in this journey ✨ There are so many women outside who work hard, learn, develop themselves and grow ✨ These women are as much into coding as I am and it goes well with lifting my motivation up #womenintech #womenempowerment #softwareengineer

Whilst not surprising, still deeply disappointing in 2023. 2 in 5 women experience sexual harassment at work, with higher incidents reported in male-dominated industries. Unlike their male peers, women are more likely to be evaluated based on performance AND personality vs performance and potential. So much of this is a result of social conditioning, learned behaviour from home, in schools, on footy fields and in the media-traditional and social. What’s learned though, can be unlearned and replaced with respectful, inclusive options - particularly when leaders are aware of and communicate the source and impact of suboptimal behaviour. Naming, blaming and shaming leads to defensiveness and backlash. It’s time we applied a human-centred approach, with accountabilities, to address root cause. #womeninstem #sexism #genderbias #humancentreddesign
