For my third beauty event of the week 😅 I went to an INCREDIBLE panel held by Traackr yesterday, their IMPACT NYC Summit, focusing on "The Art of Brand & Creator Relationships." There were SO many incredible brand folks and creators there, where the topics ranged from how to measure the ROI of influencer partnerships to how much control to give creators (spoiler alert - a lot). From Michelle Kwak at AMOREPACIFIC's Laneige to Dana Paolucci of Dove, and creators like Taryn Delanie Smith and Megha Singh, it was a day chock full of intel from the brands and creators who are doing it right and moving the needle. WAY too many insights to list, but some key takeaways include: Meet your audience where they're at Think LinkedIn isn't for promoting consumer brands? Think again. Dana from Dove noted she was seeing a lot of conversation surrounding some of their campaigns, and realized it was a good idea to test out working with some Top Voices. Don't be afraid to fail Partnering with content creators and posting on social is all about trial and error. You won't find out what works until you find out what doesn't. Post something you're unsure about, and just see what happens. It might flop - or it might take off and exponentially grow your brand. Give creators control This cannot be said enough. While you should provide creators briefs and general guidelines before partnering, ultimately, they know their audience best. They know what will resonate, and if you as a brand try to control them too much, it will come off as inauthentic and likely not garner the results you're looking for.   Yesterday I had a very exciting conversation with a photographer with whom I produced features for famous German magazines for decades. He now teaches at the university in Dortmund, no longer takes photographs and says without wistfulness: "The great era of #media houses as we experienced it is over and has given way to other communication channels." He sees this in his students, who start all kinds of media.   This statement is perfectly matched by the very unusual communication used last week to announce the comeback of the French fashion brand Camaïeu. There was NO press release for the trade media or popular media, no post on #Instagram or #LinkedIn, but a somewhat random remark in a #Youtube video by one of the country's biggest influencers, Léna Mahfouf, also known as "Lena Situations". Léna has 4 million followers on Instagram and 2.6 million on YouTube. The video was actually about a completely different event, Léna is lying on the bed of a hotel room in London paid for by Camaïeu, briefly explains the comeback and then also immediately calls on her community to apply for the job of head of communications. Original sound: "It's crazy, vlogs on Youtube have become LinkedIn!"   A brief look back: almost exactly one year ago, Camaïeu slipped into insolvency. 500 shops were closed, 2600 employees lost their jobs. The brand alone was sold for a bargain price to celio, who are planning a #comeback in 2024.   This kind of #communication is certainly unusual, but perhaps very contemporary. If you want to reach young people, you have to use these channels. Communicating such economically important information via influencers may also divide opinion. Looking for a head of communication via a vlog instead of an ad on Linkedin is also perplexing at first, but on the other hand: if the new Camaïeu is primarily aimed at a target group that obtains its information via #influencers, then this move is clever and will possibly achieve its goal. #communicationinfashion #fashionexpert #mode #influencermarketing #newmedias

Why is this social media campaign so good? Here are three reasons: Brand Alignment  - A$AP Rocky is a perfect match for Fenty Skin. He shares Fenty Skin’s vision of being different, inclusive and creative. Audience engagement from both their fans boost brand awareness and loyalty of Fenty Skin, potentially expanding Fenty's customer base. Product Integration  - Lux Balm is the star of the video. It is shown in many ways, like in close-ups, in Rocky’s hand and on his lips. Not only is the song short and catchy, but the product integration is seamless and natural, not forced and awkward. Emotional Connection - The video appeals to the emotions of the viewers by showing Rocky having fun, being playful and confident. The video makes the viewers feel good, happy and inspired from his mention of the new collaboration with Rihanna.
