As AI becomes more pervasive in the business world, privacy and confidentiality concerns are at the forefront of everyone's minds. It's crucial to only use trusted AI tools and conduct a thorough data privacy and security due diligence on each company before using their tool. This article highlights the danger of blindly trusting even the largest companies. If you're not maximizing the privacy settings on the tools you use, you're putting your company and your customers' private data at risk. Don't take any chances with data privacy - make sure you're using trusted tools and taking the necessary precautions to protect your business.
🚨 Salesforce-owned Slack is under fire for using customer data to train its AI services by default. Users need to email to opt out, but this info is buried in an outdated privacy policy. Users discovered that Slack AI, a new product for searching and summarizing threads, wasn't mentioned in the privacy policy. Slack claims it uses customer data for "global models" like channel and emoji recommendations, but insists these models can't memorize or reproduce user data. Interestingly, Slack AI, a new add-on, supposedly doesn't train its LLMs on customer data and keeps data within AWS infrastructure. Slack has promised to update its privacy terms to better reflect current practices, addressing the confusion around their AI policies. To opt out, have your Org/Workspace or Owners email [email protected] with your Workspace/Org URL and the subject line “Slack Global model opt-out request.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFae4-zw

Slack has been using data from your chats to train its machine learning models without explicit permission. This means that by default, your private data is being used without your knowledge. The only way to opt out is to ask your company's workspace owner to send Slack an email. Slack claims that customer data is not used to train its generative AI products, but it is used for other machine learning models like channel and emoji recommendations and search results. It's important to note that Slack's privacy policies have inconsistencies, causing confusion among users. https://lnkd.in/gUMPQbYe

Define Measurable Objectives and Lay Out Data Driven Road Map to a Happy Ending, Make Wins Along the Way.
we must reclaim #expectations of #privacy. From shared housing to slack engagements - a human paying rent (or mortgage) and subscribing to a product must feel #secure in their body, possessions and content as they might be from rain and snow by default obligations of #landlordships and #services (and otherwise involved institutions). Obviously #neglect and #maliciousness should be prosecuted. Yet otherwise lacking #standards from #buildingcodes to #software #devs need to become a #NationalConversation... not to say there's not an ongoing one, but if we define such responsibilities we may narrow or perhaps focus on the gaps better.
Oh great, now Slack’s AI gets to snoop through our private chats by default. Because nothing screams innovation like invading privacy and encouraging mountains of sloppy corporate speak. Thanks, Salesforce! Forcing users to send a special email to opt out? What a masterpiece of sneaky data grabs 👏🏽👏🏽

Turns out cloud-based communication platform Slack may be using people's private conversations and data to train its AI tools... When users discovered this oversight, Slack immediately apologised and re-wrote its privacy policies. But it's still unclear if its customer data is being protected or not By now, few should be surprised that customer data might have been abused, since every company is racing ahead to develop some kind of AI But that's no excuse for undermining customer trust After all, trust is fundamental to long-term business health. Throwing it all away for short-term technology wins seems foolhardy at best and dangerous at worst CEOs must rethink how they can bring their customers along for the journey when using their personal data, rather than sneak around hoping no one catches them It is high time we all start thinking smarter about data https://lnkd.in/gnp2_ysK

With MS Teams or Google Chat pretty much bundled, I was always a bit frustrated at the desire to use Slack. Development teams love it. But from a cost perspective? Why am I paying for two chat apps? Hey someone has to look after the budget. Anyway, Slack considers customer data to be ‘sacrosanct’…but they’re still going to use it to train their AI model. They say no customer data will be used for wider purposes. If you’re a suspicious person, or perhaps you’re a little weary with the “Trust us” from SaaS companies, then get your admin to opt-out. It’s not opt-in and only your admin can do it. By email. https://lnkd.in/eV-pc3Jt

🚨 🚨 OpenAI Partners with Slack: Data Capture Controversy 🚨 🚨 Slack has announced that it is partnering with OpenAI to integrate AI features to into the Slack platform. Sounds exciting! Except by default, it appears that your conversations (and therefore proprietary data) will be used to train the LLM.. clearly a significant concern for user privacy and data security. TechCrunch, TheStack, and PCMag articles (in the comments) state that Slack’s default settings allow the platform to use user messages and files to train AI models... feels pretty underhanded IMO. And a definite violation of user trust. The opt-out process seems overly complicated and opaque. Users have to navigate multiple steps and then wait for an answer from Slack... cue instantaneous outrage from users who feel they're being compromised without explicit consent. The Slack Privacy Principles currently read: “To develop AI/ML models, our systems analyze Customer Data (e.g. messages, content and files) submitted to Slack .. Contact us to opt out .. To opt out, please have your org, workspace owners or primary owner contact our Customer Experience team at [email protected] with your workspace/org URL and the subject line ‘Slack global model opt-out request’. We will process your request and respond once the opt-out has been completed." OpenAI and Slack have said they remain committed to user privacy and transparency to very little effect. Users are storming the gates demanding more straightforward and accessible options to control their data. Obviously. This should serve as a warning to users and AI product developers.. As we continue to integrate AI into our daily lives, responsible companies have to prioritize user consent and data security. Any other approach really threatens the willingness of consumers to embrace the tech. Not that we necessarily have an option at this point. To all y'all living in the Slackiverse... how do you feel about this? Were you aware? #ai #slack #openai #ethics #privacy

If you're a subscriber to Slack's paid service, be aware that your messages might be used to train its artificial intelligence models. You must choose to opt out through a somewhat old school process. "If you want to exclude your Customer Data from Slack global models, you can opt out. To opt out, please have your org, workspace owners or primary owner contact our Customer Experience team at [email protected] with your workspace/org URL and the subject line ‘Slack global model opt-out request’.
