When we launched a new set of features to make building Slack apps more modular, the Deno JavaScript runtime was an instrumental part of our technology stack. With Deno, we were able to build a system that was safe and performant by default. As someone who's been decidedly skeptical of JavaScript for most of my working life (I've got the scar tissue to prove it!), I have to say I've really enjoyed using Deno as a runtime. The fact it ships as a single binary made it so easy for us to integrate with the Slack CLI. I personally love the use of a standard `import` command for modules. And the security and permissions model just makes sense, it's exactly what you'd design if you were building a new runtime today. The Deno team has now written up a case study about how we got there: https://lnkd.in/epf3yUKc Thanks to the crew at Deno and my colleagues Kurtis Kemple and Taylor Singletary for putting this together. Give the case study a read and then head over to api.slack.com to build awesome Slack apps.

I struggled to figure out #OAuth2 flow at first. One of the first #APIs I integrated with using OAuth2 was #Slack. It's a bit more setup than just sending a webhook, but it offers a lot more power and control over the types of actions you can run in Slack. https://lnkd.in/eRASX_tu

Whenever Confluence becomes mission-critical, its value is almost always tied to the same promise: "Become the single source of truth for every business process that is worth documenting and sharing with the company at large". For one of my side projects, I’m using a SaaS solution for forms (Fillout). It offers a built-in integration for sending the form data via mail or Slack. Sadly, only all of the fields can be sent (including the empty ones). To tackle this problem, I have created a small AWS CDK project, where I create a Gateway and use Lambdas as webhooks. There, I’m able to cleanse all of the empty fields and further transform the data as needed. Because I didn’t want to deal with email formatting, I decided to deliver the data via Slack. Luckily, it offers a generous free tier, so you don’t need to pay anything for small-sized projects. This is where I discovered the Slack Block Kit. With its help, it is possible to create visually appealing and well-formatted messages. You can even create whole workflows, by making your messages interactive: You can add buttons and inputs, that trigger further steps. Slack also offers a lightweight Javascript client, that helps you define your Block Kit UI in a declarative way: https://lnkd.in/eGpnJ-zG. If you haven’t known about Block Kit so far, you should try it out! I really like everything GitHub is doing, they realized the AI topic before anyone else and started digging in that direction like crazy. And now they are announcing the beta of GitHub Workspaces, an AI collaboration system for software development. I can literally hear a conversation with an OpenAI evangelist, whom we met before the mass hype, and he insisted on rethinking all the concepts of working relationships and tasks, because each team member will be able to do everything from requirements and design to code and deployment with the help of AI. There are no such tools yet, and now GitHub is entering the field of collaboration systems and attacking Jira, Asana and Wrike. In general, they make an AI-first IDE with an assistant that can write requirements for sluggish ideas, make a plan, specify in which files to change what, write code, describe and debug, and do this in a collaborative environment where you can discuss all the steps with your colleagues. Plus every step can be corrected or rewritten to keep things from going off the rails. I think this is how we'll be developing software this year. More info: https://lnkd.in/dZShDZk8
