June is Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) awareness month. HHT is a rare genetic disorder characterized by malformations of various blood vessels known as arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) which can affect multiple organs of the body. Also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu Disease, this is considered a blood vessel disorder which leads to bleeding. According to Cure HHT, 90% of people with HHT are undiagnosed and many are misdiagnosed. Symptoms include nosebleeds, and can affect organs of the body such as the heart, brain, lungs and GI tract. This disorder affects one in 5,000 Americans. There are many educational resources to learn more about HHT. One, is Living with HHT, a book by Sara Palmer, which highlights personal stories of people living with HHT along with topics like maintaining mental health. Major Depression Inventory The Major Depression Inventory (MDI) is a self-rating scale used for the diagnosis or measurement of depression, according to both DSM-IV major depression and ICD-10 moderate to severe depression criteria. The symptoms should have been present nearly every day during the past 2 weeks. In both the DSM-IV and ICD-10, the items of depressed mood and lack of interest are considered as the core symptoms of depression.
