Amazing regional investments to accelerate digital transformation in Malaysia 👏
Microsoft's whopping $2.2 billion investment in Malaysia isn't just a financial injection but a pivotal moment for ASEAN's digital landscape. This move underscores Malaysia's emerging prowess as a tech hub, leveraging AI and cloud computing to drive economic growth and societal well-being. It’s crucial that this venture not only focuses on infrastructure but also ensures inclusive growth that benefits all strata of Malaysian society. How will this initiative bridge the digital divide and enhance the everyday lives of Malaysians?

After the transformation in the US, Malaysia is going to be revolutionized.
amazing regional investments..
Hello Satya, Thank you for hosting this insightful event. My team and I are eagerly looking forward to testing out CoPilot for GitHub. I believe Microsoft’s decision to invest in Malaysia was a wise one. Our company made a similar choice to insource IT operations three years ago, and we specifically selected Malaysia as our destination among four other contenders. I have never regretted this decision. Our team successfully navigated the challenges posed by insourcing services during the COVID-19 pandemic and drove forward our digital acceleration. Moreover, I take pride in the diversity of our team, which represents five different countries and includes over 30% women. I am confident that, like us, you will discover that investing in Malaysia was indeed a good choice

1moIf 200,000 people are projected to benefit from this initiative, I think this could be a good opportunity for big tech companies to see Malaysia as a vibrant country full of talent. If they are truly committed to reskilling 2.5 million people in ASEAN in AI, I also hope that this commitment will lead to making our labor participation more competitive, hence uplifting our economic values. Another question for me would be, who’s going to take charge of driving the training of 200K people and what would be the criteria for the selection? These upskilling opportunities must be discussed and scrutinized from all angles to ensure proper execution. 680,000 developers are just a drop in the bucket (Malaysia’s population is 33 million with a labor participation rate of 68%, which calculates to 22.4 million). The 680,000 represents only 3%. What we should focus on is uplifting and recognizing data practitioners with AI fluency. If we only focus on the product itself rather than its potential impact on businesses, I feel there is a misalignment. Hence, everyone needs to be hands-on to ensure that the current and future generations can contribute to the economy using AI, with a strong and sound foundation in data practices and governance.
