𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦'𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 💫 As I am excitingly coming back to join (or, fairer to say 'never leave' 😅) The Community Cohort for the fourth time, it made me reflect on my journey with The Community Collective 🧡 I started with the idea of the first believers because Paz Pisarski, a Co-Founder of The CC, is someone who I see as one of my first believers in Australia. In 2022, I applied for the inagural Ambassador Program at The Community Collective, and Paz selected me to be one of its first four Ambassadors along with Ashwin Chhaperia, Desmond John & Katherine O'Donoghue 🤗 For some, it might not seem like anything special - joining a commuity as a volunteer. However, I've never seen it that way. For me, it was like being spotlighted for something that even I could not see in myself back then and believing in me being the right person to represent the community. I've realised that The Community Cohort has the same effect as having your first believer but at scale. You have your buddies highlighting your strengths and helping you to own them, and you have coaches and speakers helping you to course-correct and become a better community builder. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀! I guess it all makes sense now why I never leave this place 😂 I know it's somewhat a long reflection aka announcement of my joining The Community Cohort #4. Reflecting on my Flight Home from Kansas City: Key Insights on Facilitating Community Engagement in Unfamiliar Cities As a Community Engagement practitioner, I've learned some invaluable lessons during my visit to Kansas City. Here are three crucial points I want to share: 1. **Embrace Local Culture and History:** Understanding the unique cultural and historical context of a city is crucial. It's not just about adapting your strategies; it's about respecting and integrating local values and traditions into your approach. This fosters trust and shows your genuine interest in the community. 2. **Leverage Local Networks and Leaders:** Collaboration is key. Identify and connect with local leaders and organizations. They have the grassroots knowledge and influence that can amplify your efforts. Building these partnerships not only enhances your impact but also ensures sustainability. 3. **Prioritize Listening Over Speaking:** The most powerful tool in community engagement is listening. Enter new communities with a learning mindset. Understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. This approach not only enriches your understanding but also builds a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration. Why is this important? Engaging with communities, especially in unfamiliar settings, is more than a project—it's a commitment to fostering inclusive and empowered societies.
