Designing where we live at every scale for the 21st Century: Design, Resilience and Economic Opportunity at the forefront.
💼🏘️ Real Estate: Driving Equitable Wealth Creation and Community Development Real Estate has long been recognized as one of the most powerful tools for wealth creation, whether for individuals, families, or communities. As we embark on the next generation of real estate development in our cities, it is imperative that we prioritize equitable sharing of wealth generated in communities of color with the local communities. We must acknowledge and rectify the historical discriminatory land planning and lending practices that have disproportionately affected these communities. It is time to do better. I had the privilege of collaborating with Marquita "Keta" Price and the East Oakland Neighborhood Initiative during our involvement in The Rockefeller Foundation funded and Rebuild by Design managed Resilient Bay Challenge. Keta's expertise and dedication to creating resilient and inclusive communities have been truly inspiring - since the Resilient Bay Challenge she has worked with others to raise over $28M to support a "Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors" program. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge Alan Dones, managing partner and co-founder of SUDA, LLC, specializing in large-scale, innovative, public agency projects and mixed-use development, who is currently working with the African American Sports and Entertainment Group on their vision for the Oakland Coliseum site. and with BART on the West Oakland Mandela Station Alan's commitment to community development and his transformative projects exemplify the positive change we need in our industry. I extend my deepest gratitude to Keta and Alan for sharing their experiences, strength, and hope with the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design MREDD students for the past few years now. Their work serves as an inspiration for all of us and highlights the difference we can make when we prioritize equity and inclusivity in real estate development. Together, let's continue striving to create a world where real estate serves as a catalyst for positive social change. #realestate #equity #communitydevelopment #wealthcreation #inclusivity #inspiration #socialchange #oaklandcoliseum #eastoakland #westoakland

So honored to be asked to testify before the US Senate's Subcommittee on Housing about how Fading West is working to solve the nationwide housing crisis. It's clear that industry and governments must work together to tackle this issue. We believe that modular construction can play a key role in cutting costs and speeding up construction. Let's work together to make affordable housing a reality for all Americans. #UShousingcrisis #modularconstruction #FadingWest
