The Road Less Traveled begins with the statement "Life is difficult". Life was never meant to be easy and is essentially a series of problems which can either be solved or ignored. Peck wrote of the importance of discipline, describing four aspects of it: Delaying gratification: Sacrificing present comfort for future gains. Acceptance of responsibility: Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions. Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in word and deed. Balancing: Handling conflicting requirements.
The Road Less Traveled, published in 1978, is Peck's best-known work, and the one that made his reputation. It is, in short, a description of the attributes that make for a fulfilled human being, based largely on his experiences as a psychiatrist and a person. L&L Construction Group: 4 different companies. Walk a day in the boots of a carpenter and a few things might surprise you. Even if you work in construction, the day-to-day of another construction worker might be completely different than you initially thought. 👍 Building sites include a variety of jobs and trades, competing priorities, and hard-hitting deadlines. Managing all of that takes a lot of teamwork, in terms of individual teams and the company as a whole. Teamwork includes open communication and everyone contributing to improve the workplace to safely and successfully achieve the project goal. Good teamwork makes the job site safer and the work more efficient. That is why Refined Space Construction is committed to cooperation on the job site and off of it. 💪 #RefinedSpace #QueenslandBuilder #CarpenterLife #BuildingSites #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork #ConstructionIndustry

"All else being equal, an experienced carpenter is better than an inexperienced one. It should also be obvious that in the planning and delivery of big projects experience should be maximized whenever possible - by hiring the experienced carpenter, for example." In talking about experience, I also found Flyvberg's discussion of the Empire State Building interesting in Chapter 5 of How Big Things Get Done (it's discussed in other chapters, but this specific part appears there). While it is a marvel of construction planning, budgeting and scheduling, the Empire State Building is also a scaled-up versionof a much smaller building built by the same architect - the Reynolds Building. The initial design was produced in two weeks, using the architect's earlier design of the Reynolds Building as a basis. A good reminder to consider bringing the knowledge of the "experienced carpenter" (and experienced project lawyer...) to your next major project. #construction #constructionlaw
