Friends, Thank you for an overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement last week of our upcoming book - "The Journey of Leadership". https://lnkd.in/dbz_zdbB A few of you asked me: “Why did you write this book? When did the idea come to you?" My reflections on these questions took me back 30 years to my Day One at McKinsey—May 9, 1994. After graduating from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad in India, I joined our firm to learn the basic skills of a leader—to become a better problem solver, communicator, team member and project manager. Over time I spent a lot of time coaching and mentoring colleagues. Spending time helping colleagues gave me meaning and joy. Eventually, I led Partner learning for McKinsey, during which time I had a chance to work with a broad set of senior colleagues in designing and delivering learning programs for our 3000 Partners. Ten years ago, I got involved with the Bower Forum, McKinsey’s CEO leadership program. I also began to focus more on serving clients on topics related to leadership development and culture. And as a Board member at multiple non-profit institutions, I had a chance to study leadership more deeply. I got to a point where I felt it would be useful to share my learnings in some form with the world. Three years ago, I remember the moment when Hans-Werner and I were having lunch one day when we had an "Aha moment" - we were reaching close to 500 CEO participants in our Bower Forums. We had reached a critical mass of learnings from these participants. In a world of increasing uncertainty and complexity, we had seen some amazing leaders navigating the world with humility, curiosity and courage. It was time to share their stories with the world. Over time, we decided to make the book not just about the Bower Forums, but also McKinsey's broader learnings from client work and research in our organization practice. Making a contribution to the field of leadership development with dear friends and experienced practitioners Dana Maor, Kurt Strovink along with my Co-Dean of the Bower Forum, Hans-Werner Kaas, is a true privilege. Here is a picture of three out of the four authors last week in our New York Office along with Raju Narisetti and Lynn Johnston - our advisor.

Congratulations, Ramesh Srinivasan. I was delighted to read about your upcoming book, and equally about the background info you gave regarding why got into "writing the book". Yes, I have watched your steady and inspiring progress since May 1994 when I first met you (we, then at Piramal Enterprises, were a McKinsey client in the textiles assignment). Best wishes, and looking forward to the book launch.
Congratulations! Love the insights you share in the book.
So exciting to hear about this. I benefited so much from your coaching and mentoring over the years - I know all the CEOs and leaders you worked must have feel as privileged as I do and it is fantastic more people will now benefit from your learnings along the way.
Well done, Ramesh, Hans-Werner, Dana, and team. I appreciate how much work that’s gone into this book.
