#texturetuesday has made its way back around! Today we wanted to share a little about our fabric selection process. Our designer takes special care in selecting what fabrics go into each design. Especially when it comes to how the garment should move, flow, and fit, as well as how it should feel. All of the fabrics we use are natural fiber based, typically with cotton. Every now and then we'll throw in a linen or a blend into the mix. Either way, our goal is to find light to medium weight fabrics that can be worn all year round and comfortably layered... Here's what Pantone says the numbers in the FHI system mean: "Pantone’s Fashion, Home + Interiors’ numbering system enables precise accuracy on a global scale. Each color has a unique location in the System’s color space, which allows the space to be precisely defined. A six-digit number assigned to each color defines that location: Each pair of digits has a specific meaning: The first pair (16) refers to the lightness or darkness of the color. The second pair (15) specifies the hue – yellow, red, blue, green. The third pair of numbers (46) describes the chroma level of the color. Using the six-digit PANTONE Fashion, Home + Interiors Color Number, any color can be selected and communicated anywhere in the world." At first glance, one might hope this had some relationship to the standard LCH coordinate system that is related L*a*b*, but this is actually not so. But I must admit- and wonder- has anyone ever developed a correlation between the Pantone FHI lightness/hue/chroma numbers and the more standard luminance/hue/chroma(LCH) system?

Fashion is so weird, isn’t it? We’re working on our house and it’s not going to be fashionable at all; it’s probably going to be a bit ridiculous, actually. To be fair, it’s a very strange building in terms of architecture anyway. When I go back to Britain, I notice how fashionable everyone’s houses are and they often look beautiful. But I also wonder if our tastes can only be determined by fashion, or is there a deeper, more personal appreciation of beauty hidden within us? Is it there, but harder to access when fashion pervades everything? So, back to our house. The photo below is the surface of the floor on one level of our house. I suppose we could change it, but that would mean throwing good materials away. Instead, we’re embracing the weird 70s black, green and cream tiles, and painting the walls in colours we think would complement them. And we won’t be getting ideas from online or anywhere else but our own brains. I think we’ll like it when it’s done, even though nobody else will, probably. We’ve got pink and white tiles in the bathroom, also from the 70s. It’s hard to know why anyone would like them, and yet I know they did! It seems to me that working within the limits of what’s already there and, more importantly, working with it, seems like a more purist approach to beauty. It’s about seeing the good in everything and bringing it out so it can shine. Is that truly possible, or are we deluding ourselves to justify saving money? #style #homedecor #fashion
