DO YOU EVEN LIKE WHISKY? THE BARRIERS HOLDING BACK WOMEN IN THE INDUSTRY OurWhisky Foundation has such a critical mission. I greatly respect founder Becky Paskin and her team of amazing women. I am one of the women who answered the poll. I gave honest answers from my experience in the industry and being a female consumer. We have done much work towards equality since I began working in the hospitality and spirits industry. However, this report hurts my heart. There is still so much to be done. Here are a few statistics from the report; “81% of women working in whisky have been asked if they ‘actually like whisky’ while at work or making a purchase.” “Only 16% of those polled think the industry is doing enough to change Whisky’s masculine image, and the same number feels that women are fairly represented in whiskey advertising and marketing.” “70% of respondents have experienced inappropriate or sexual remarks while doing their job.” This report is a glaring example of the work ahead of us and the need for allies and change. I am so proud of the women in my industry who continue to blaze trails for all of us. Thank you! Please give this a read:

Sadly unsurprising. Unconscious bias is a difficult thing to tackle but there is still so much that companies can do to challenge the typically masculine and outdated image of whisky. It’s never fun being talked over or having your knowledge dismissed in favour of a male colleague’s opinion and it’s important that we work to change that, even one person at a time. Changing people’s perception of whisky has proven to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my job, bringing whisky into the modern age.

Today is International Women's Rights Day 🤝 🌏 A day to highlight and work towards equality for all women! Given the complexity of the challenge that is climate change, it is essential to have diverse inputs, and women add a formidable and crucial dimension to the discussion. Although sustainability is a relatively new field, the vast majority of leadership positions are still held by men. As in all areas, striking a balance is key to ensuring representation and achieving meaningful results. I encourage all underrepresented groups to rise to the challenge and explore the wide range of opportunities in climate-focused professions. This field is not only of critical importance; it's also exciting, rewarding, and genuinely captivating. #Womensrights #InternationalWomensDay #Sustainability
