Did you know that the average capital raised by female-founded Al & ML companies is six times lower than the average capital raised by an all-male founder team? Last night, I had the pleasure of attending an event hosted by Alma Angels and Google bringing together female tech founders and investors. It was a great opportunity to exchange networks, provide mutual support, and gain insights into navigating the fundraising landscape. Among the topics discussed was the transformative role of AI. Lucrezia Noli shared an interesting slide, highlighting how AI can empower founders by: 1. Minimizing time from idea to MVP 2. Building knowledge faster 3. Creating more accessible products I completely agree with her points and wish to share this with new founders or those seeking to integrate AI into their work processes. This fundraise feels different. In Q4, our pre-seed fundraise thrived on a lot of outreach and direct intros. Before launching Fabrik and Gen AI Trust Network, we were able to get out there and discover some visionary pre-seed VC champions. It felt good to find folks that align around an organized hustle because although we were early, we knew we had built a significant support team and had a methodical process. The net result was a lot of intros and network expansion across small pockets of VC, which we are super grateful for. We raised enough to test the market on the earliest version of the product under the banner of a misnamed company, and resurface with customers as Fabrik and the Gen AI Trust Network product. We kicked off our Seed fundraise last week. This go, we are seeing some super well aligned, unsolicited investor inbounds prior to having made a dent in outreach. While we are executing the outreach today as well, the theses of the inbounds seem to have 90% overlap with our mission. We are grateful to these new relationships already as they have begun things with research on us. It's still early but this feels different. #fundraising #seriesseed #vc

Despite the best efforts from various professors, I lack the capabilities to appreciate the econometric methods and machine learning techniques (Lasso Regression, Random Forest, and Gradient Boosting anyone?) used in this study but I cannot resist to add some reactions after having read (or rather tried to understand) the paper. I wholeheartedly agree that selecting PE funds based on quantitative data only will not drive PE outperformance. Qualitative information remains key to assess a product offering in an asset class that is to such a massive extent driven by people. However, I struggle to find much practical value in 'qualitative' observations such as 'the longer the PPM, the worse the returns of the fund' or better performing funds mentioned the 'operational and financial' more often in the strategy section of their PPM. A decade as an LP has taught me a lesson or two in hybris management, hence I believe the golden formula for PE fund selection - for man or machine - is yet to be found. #privateequity #privatemarkets #machinelearning #artificialintelligence #toostupidforacademia
