Recently, I was asked for 5 tips for creating healthcare technologies that improve patients’ lives. Here are 5 tips to help you create and develop transformational healthcare technology: 1️⃣ Identify the problem - Start by identifying the problem you want to solve. This can be anything from improving patient outcomes to reducing healthcare costs. 2️⃣ Investigate existing solutions - Before developing a new piece of technology, research existing solutions to see if there are any solutions already trying to solve the problem. 3️⃣ Work with healthcare providers - Work with healthcare providers to ensure your technology fits their needs and can be integrated into their workflow. 4️⃣ Design with the user in mind - Design your technology with the end user in mind. This will help ensure that your technology is easy to use and meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals. 5️⃣ Test and iterate - Test your technology with real users and iterate based on their feedback. This will help ensure that your technology works well and meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals. As a healthcare technologist, I'm stoked to see healthcare technology evolve. The joy of knowing that we can improve patients’ lives through technology is unparalleled! Let’s all get involved in designing, building, and developing healthcare technologies that will improve healthcare and enhance patients’ lives. Together we can make a difference! The integration of technology into healthcare faces unique challenges that consumer driven technologies do not often face. "While it's the buzz across healthcare systems, it's an incredibly hard thing to pull off in healthcare for many reasons.... But the two most challenging...are cultural change and speed at which health systems can upgrade and adopt new technology." #healthIT #digitalhealth #informatics #icare

Partnering with healthcare leaders to solve their most important software design and development challenges
The Future of Health Tech: Key Insights for 2024 In a world where healthcare is rapidly evolving, understanding the priorities of clinical and IT leaders is the key to success. Recent research by IDC, sponsored by Redox, provides some valuable insights. Here's my favorites: #1: Despite financial constraints, a whopping 88% of healthcare providers plan to up their investment in third-party technologies. This surprised me a bit, but suggests provider organizations have real challenges to solve that can't be put on the back burner. #2: Cost-effectiveness is king. Demonstrating clear ROI is vital. In a fee-for-service model, it might mean increased procedural volume; for a value-based system, it could be about reducing care costs or improving clinical outcomes. #3: The era of telemedicine and remote patient monitoring is here. Providers are funneling more dollars into patient-centered care technologies, revolutionizing healthcare access and efficiency. #4: Less administrative burden, more automation. Clinical leaders want tech solutions that ease the workload and reduce operational waste. Efficiency matters. #5: Data quality is everything. Solutions that enhance data reliability and availability are highly desirable. Better data means better decisions and outcomes. #6: Healthcare expertise and a clear understanding of clinical workflows are valued. Tech vendors, take note – showing how your solution fits seamlessly into a clinical setting matters. What's missing? #digitalhealth #healthtech #innovation

Build it, and they will come. Or not. – The case for collaboration in data-driven healthcare. Common challenges to data-driven #healthcare include issues around integration, interoperability, and management. But in siloed healthcare organizations, culture and leadership also pose a significant challenge, where IT may implement a technology solution without involvement from its end-users. Experts from around the world explain why collaborating with clinical and laboratory professionals enables healthcare organizations to realize the full value and benefits of new technologies that enable data-driven, #PatientCentricCare. http://spkl.io/60484lEXo

Chief Innovation Officer | NIA Fellow | Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon | Digital & Innovation Lead | Green Champion | HealthTech Mentor
Last week, I talked about the World Economic Forum's report on the current state of healthcare technology, where I focused on the importance of adoption and scalability as opposed to innovation. The report also highlighted a key distinction between front-end and back-end technologies, a differentiation I believe carries significant weight in the success of healthcare delivery. Front-end technologies, which are patient-facing solutions, are often the focus of attention. However, back-end technologies that streamline and optimise operational healthcare aspects are equally, if not more, essential. For front-end technologies to function optimally, robust infrastructure and solid foundations are required, which are provided by back-end technologies. Imagine the AI potential in healthcare; without a strong back-end support system, its effectiveness is compromised. Essentially, the success of front-end solutions is largely dependent on the quality of the back-end technology. A common misconception is that implementing an expensive electronic health record system will solve all your back-end issues. We need to consider a new paradigm, where the emphasis is a shift towards using technology to support clinical pathways and operational processes rather than just storing patient records. As shown in Figure 7 of the report, innovative clinical pathway management solutions can significantly improve workflows, leading to a range of benefits. These include reducing administrative tasks, facilitating decision-making, optimising resource allocation, providing real-time information, and minimising the risk of errors and complications. This new paradigm is aimed at enhancing both the efficiency and efficacy of our healthcare delivery. So by prioritising back-end technology, we lay the groundwork for a more efficient healthcare system. This, in turn, paves the way for front-end solutions to excel, improving patient experiences and outcomes.
