Please. This is so important. ‼
Your employees are humans first. Not machines. Not robots. Not property. 🙅♀️
While your business needs are critical when filling a role, so are the goals, skills, and career projections of the candidate you are hiring. ✔
As someone who has always ended up in a "Jack of All Trades" role one way or another since early on in her career, I can speak to how hard it can be to escape.
I've never had the option to be picky in my job search. Often, I found myself taking the role out of the necessity of an income. 💰
There were times I was accepting a role that sounded like the perfect fit until I started doing it. Then suddenly it was something completely different than what was pitched.
The thing is, each role we end up in that is a Jack of All Trades role or one that is just plain not what we signed up for, has the potential to push us further and further off the path for our career goals. 🏃♀️
Sometimes we may discover something we loved more, but in my experience, it has made it massively more difficult...
More difficult to get a job in the industry I went to school for...
More difficult to build a portfolio that can compete with other applicants applying for my dream job with actual recent content...
More difficult to get my application viewed in my industry because I don't have the right kind of experience...
More difficult to shake imposter syndrome when it creeps in...
The list goes on. 🖊
Let's be better advocates for our employees and our team by staffing better. ❤️✨

Employers: it’s time we stop looking for the “jack of all trades,” the “gurus,” and the “ninjas” of a certain occupation. Let’s let employees excel at their main roles without having to wear hats that don’t fit.
