As an educator, how do you know your students are learning? Although this question may seem simple to answer, the way a teacher or coach answers the question has profound philosophical and practical effects. Changing the answer affects what is taught (curriculum), how information is presented (instruction), and the ways students practice and perform (assessment). In addition, combining the answer to the question with how quickly the learning needs to occur changes the tempo of the learning, producing widely different learning environments. Receiving a Noyce grant to fund my graduate work at The College was a huge benefit to the beginning of my teaching career! Glad to know the program is continuing -- love to see programs that positively impact future teachers!
The William & Mary School of Education recently received a significant new funding boost from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance the recruitment and retention of STEM teachers. The $1.2 million award, presented to Associate Professor and Pavey Family Co-Chair in Instructional Technology Meredith Kier, ensures support for the Noyce Scholars Program for the next five years. The W&M Noyce Scholars Program, an integral part of the university's efforts to address the national shortage of highly qualified K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teachers, provides substantial scholarships to students interested in teaching math and science. You are an expert in your field — however, you still need to learn and grow. How do you continue to learn and grow? Here are two categories of ideas: * Developing more depth of your (mental) models for concepts in the complex set of knowledge and skills. * Handling challenges in the learning process. The challenge in the advanced stage comes from integrating new knowledge and skills into your existing models for concepts while maintaining a high level of performance. This guide will help you understand how to integrate knowledge and skills into your models for concepts while handling challenges in the learning process — continuing your learning in the advanced stage! https://lnkd.in/gFcc_Haq Let me know how you are learning the advanced stage — I would enjoy chatting with you!

However, within the opportunity is a big challenge: Helping people learn deeply and efficiently is hard. There are many factors that affect the rate and depth of learning, which can change the learning outcome from successful to unsuccessful. The good news is that you *can* help people learn deeply and efficiently, creating successful learning outcomes. The way to create successful learning outcomes is to apply the *principles of learning*; these principles of learning will give all learners the best chance to maximize their learning! To bring the ideas of the principles of learning to life, I’ve created a course — access the course through the link. There are two versions of the course: * Self-Directed — Access to all videos and readings, but no feedback * Asynchronous — Access to all videos and readings, with personalized feedback https://lnkd.in/gZwz62PY If you have questions or comments, please let me know — I would love to discuss! #learning #LearningEngine #personalgrowthanddevelopment
