I'm working on building an online community for my neighborhood and need a platform that makes it easy for people to connect, ask questions, and share ideas. Criteria: ✅  Must be accessible to all ages ✅  Must have some kind of forum/information swapping element ✅  Must be somewhat affordable (we have some budget but not huge) ✅  Forums/questions/discussions can be sent via email ✅  Must have extremely easy to use interface and instant onboarding process. Any ideas? I looked at Circle but it seems more geared towards online businesses. We currently have a presence on Nextdoor but it's not great as our feeds get polluted with info from adjoining neighborhoods. Also considered Workplace from Meta as I use it for another group and love it, but feel this is not user-friendly enough for older generations and I worry about onboarding. It's also a bit overkill. Any ideas or suggestions on where to look?

10 years at Meta this month. This is crazy! This means I’ve been at the company longer than 98% of the employees. I don't even know what to say! For starters, it's been a journey of privilege (that led me here), hard work  (that kept me here) and gratitude (that grounds me). It's been a (tough) self-learning journey too. Corporate world is hard, but here I found the most caring people surrounding me. Firstly, I led the content strategy within the Global Business Marketing team, establishing our B2B presence across digital channels. From creating case studies, to being part of the Instagram Ads campaign launch, it was a fun ride. Then I went through a career transition to Communities. I’m so proud of having led the Community Accelerator in Latin America over the past couple of years, a program centered on the intersection of technology and social impact, empowering more than +20 community leaders to unlock their full potential, w/ up to USD 40K invested in each community. Recently, I've embarked on a new journey tackling the Creator Economy, expanding a program that enables emerging and aspiring creators to change their lives and impact others'. There's tons of people who I partnered with (you know who you are), and I was lucky enough to have had great managers. Ten years ago I was recently out of my Master's Degree in Barcelona when Camila Fusco told me about a new B2B project Facebook was launching in 2014. It was Facebook for Business. She put me in touch with Maggie Louise Sander, my first manager here, so critical for my development. Then Clarissa Konishi told me in my first performance conversation that I was creative. I remember this to this day. I wasn't used to getting feedback and when I did I always accepted them. And that's when Molly Wagman comes in saying with her simple and wise words: "you don't have to accept all the feedback". Filtering is important, not to rely only on what's convenient, but not to let your strengths be questioned inappropriately. I took that advice subsequently. Afterwards Mariana Malanconi inspired me with creativity. A couple of years later Flavia Goulart Pereira gave me an opportunity for my most important career change. And also Leticia M. Jáuregui Casanueva mentored me with such intelligence. I did so many great things here that I wanted to expand the knowledge to projects that are close to my heart. That's why I stay close to PretaHub, being part of their accelerator programs, and most recently I collaborated with The Grameen Creative Lab, a social business consultancy to create business models to solve social issues. I'm excited to keep learning and impacting not only Meta, but bringing everything I have to offer to many initiatives. Hit me up if you wanna talk! PS: Yes, I'm celebrating, but I'm aware of the impact of Meta across different aspects of societal issues. (*click *click *click) 🤣 Jokes aside, Zukerburg's new addition to the Meta family threads has gotten over 100 million in less than a week! This new social media app has helped a lot of creators build more authentic and wholesome connections with their following. But how do we as people in the DEI space use this app? What are the benefits of threads in the DEI space? Here are my opinions: 🌟 threads encourages companies to find innovative ways to communicate their values, principles and messages to their customers/clients. 🌟 threads has the potential to improve trust amongst stakeholders - as companies are now going beyond the work environment to push their values 🌟threads can encourage live feedback from clients, customers and those of diverging fields to what a company can do better. 🌟threads can build authentic community - it's feels more like real people having real conversations So maybe we should pay attention .... 100 million people already have 👀 Let me know what you think - even on threads ..... My first Metaversary 🎉 Today marks a significant milestone in my journey: one year of crafting insights at Meta! 📊💡 Over the past year, I've had the awesome opportunity to dive deep into the ever-evolving world of tech, uncovering some valuable insights and making impactful decisions along the way. From crunching data trends to dreaming up future possibilities, it's been a wild ride full of discovery and growth. I've gotten to lead some pretty challenging projects with plenty of autonomy and creativity, especially on our beloved apps (Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook), scoring insights that really matter for our game plan. Being part of the innovative and exciting company as Meta has opened up a ton of doors for me to get more analytical and creative, making a real impact. Whether I'm digging into consumer habits, checking out what's shaking in the market, or figuring out what's next, every day feels like a fresh journey in getting to grips with our constantly changing industry. And focusing on Latin America? That's given me a chance to really get under the skin of how our continent is changing and evolving. What really sets this journey apart is the incredible teamwork and unwavering commitment to excellence that characterizes my International Marketing team. Although Meta has denied putting a monetary value on kids, a recently-released unredacted version of a lawsuit brought by attorneys general from 33 states includes an internal email showing how Meta characterized its youngest users in 2018: “The lifetime value of a 13 y/o teen is roughly $270 per teen.” The email went on to caution Meta employees that, “[t]his number is core to making decisions about your business,” and, accordingly, “you do not want to spend more than the LTV of the user.” In other words, our kids are profit centers and it doesn’t make business sense for Meta to spend more than $270 to make the platform safe for them. Today I ended my parenting leave early and marked my last day at Meta. Taking inspiration from my husband Paull Young who shared his goals after being laid off from Meta last month, I thought it would be useful to share some thoughts about what I learned and built in the 6.5 years I’ve worked at Meta and what I’d like to do next. When I started in 2016, I was working solely on Instagram and our partnerships team was less than 20 people. Today, I leave a partnerships team of hundreds (though many of them we let go in the past week). It’s been a wild, amazing, transformative ride, and I’m proud have been a small part of Instagram and Meta’s story. I'm also excited about starting a new chapter. What I’m Best At: Storytelling: I started my career as a journalist and as the industry evolved, I moved from print to digital to social, but the heart of my work has always been about bringing stories to life. At Meta my role focused on creating big brand moments, helping founders Kevin and Mikey bring their narratives to global VIP audiences, and leading Meta’s Entertainment Partnerships team where we helped the world's biggest names share their moments with millions. Communications: I wrote tailored strategic messaging; responded to and created global news cycles and crafted narratives to support products, accounts and programs, handling many of Instagram and Facebook’s high-impact PR escalations and advising on public figure policies and safety tools. I thrive in a “crisis” and finding the right ways to communicate through it. Strategy: I defined launch strategies for the go-to-market rollouts of Instagram and Facebook products like Stories, IGTV, Reels and our wellbeing and safety tools, and created onboarding and moment-based plans for VIP users. Creative Marketing: I was named an Event Marketer of the Year in 2019 and in my time oversaw activations at events including the Met Gala (producing the annual Instagram class photo), Oscars, Golden Globes (hosting IG’s first-ever Awards party with Vanity Fair), Super Bowl, VidCon, Coachella, film and TV premieres and created the Instagram Kindness Prom. What I want to Do Next: Tell Stories via creative strategies. Whether this be as a creative consultant, communications director, strategic adviser, director of entertainment or something else, I want to bring interesting stories to life. When I think about all of the different hats I’ve worn across my career, what gives me the most energy is the idea of strategic thinking through communications and marketing. I plan to finish out what would have been my remaining maternity leave with my children but am open to advisory, consultant and (for the right opportunity) full-time work in the next few months as I ramp back into the workforce. Many of us use products by Meta on a daily basis, whether it is Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram. The company just released its Responsible Business 2023 report (link in comment), and I hope some companies (not just in #Armenia) will take the time to look at the focus areas chosen by this IT giant. Page 12 of the report shows the materiality matrix with topics like human rights, content governance, and data privacy in the "critical" zone - important to both the company and its stakeholders. And the report later outlines actions in this area, including how it is relevant with the rise of artificial intelligence, and other timely topics. The report also details how the company is striving to be net-zero, and its work with other partners for impact in this area. Employee engagement and diversity are also key topics in the document. But I would specifically like many of the companies I know in my part of the world to focus on the "Community engagement and investment" section (pages 64-66), where Meta outlines how it puts money into "external" activities. Note how every single one of the activities mentioned are linked to the core business of the company; they are not charitable acts that will only come back to the company in terms of PR mileage. They are "win-win" initiatives that have an impact on society AND include a tangible business benefit for Meta that is not just reputational gain. Consider also how seemingly unrelated topics like preparing for elections and suicide prevention feature as topics where Meta wants to have a more positive impact. There is a lot to digest in this report for anyone who is planning a career in corporate responsibility, or to those who work in another business function but have been entrusted their company's CSR activities. Is Meta the most responsible company in the world? Probably not. Is there something that anyone interested in CSR can gain from reading this report? Most definitely. I hope that practitioners in Armenia and beyond--where we still have a lot to learn about this concept--will think beyond philanthropy and gain inspiration from how companies strategize (and report) on CSR in their markets.
