Throwback to the 1999 cinematic masterpiece, “Until the End of the World” by Wim Wenders, which has been a pivotal inspiration in my life and continues to rank amongst my all-time favourites. The plot features a groundbreaking device – a camera that, when mounted on one’s head, could record visual experiences that can be “displayed” to a blind person, enabling them to “see”. The real magic unveils when this camera is discovered to record dreams too. If you haven't watched the movie yet, I won't spoil it for you. It's a must-see, especially now when reality seems to be catching up with science fiction. Recently, scientific articles have been highlighting how, through machine learning and EEG waves, it is possible to reconstruct visuals using brain waves. Traditionally, models have had limited success, often converting brain waves to text and then text to images. But now, a leap has been made with the introduction of DreamDiffusion, utilizing diffusion models (the same technology behind DALL-E and Midjourney). The researchers bypassed the text conversion and trained the model akin to a diffusion model, resulting in better images than before. Although this is a simple explanation, the potential is immense.
