Key insights from Zoe Michaleff's study shed light on healthcare professionals' knowledge, usage, and preferences concerning clinical decision aids (CDAs) in the emergency department (ED). Here's why this is good for consumers: 1) Improved Decision Making: Identifying CDA knowledge highlights areas for better clinical decisions, benefiting patient care. 2) Enhanced Quality of Care: Integrating CDAs into the electronic medical record system standardizes practices, improving care quality and safety. 3) Person Empowerment: Effective CDA use empowers people in decision-making about their care. 4) Efficiency and Resource Optimization: Identifying barriers to CDA use helps optimize workflows, reducing wait times and improving health care experiences. 5) Continuous Improvement: This study informs ongoing education efforts, ensuring consumers receive the most evidence-based care possible. Understanding healthcare professionals' perspectives on CDAs can lead to better decision-making, elevated care quality, heightened patient empowerment, efficiency gains, and ongoing advancements in clinical practice—all directly benefiting consumers. Love this little article. “Think like a detective, not a gambler, if you want to make great saves.” Dr. Pregerson makes some great points about using population medicine and risk stratification tools appropriately, to avoid missing diagnoses that have deadly outcomes. He also touches on a really important point about communication between patients and physicians: that often times, patients define certain words or terms differently than we do, and it is up to us to clarify exactly what our patients mean. This usually requires taking a few extra minutes with the patient to ask more questions. Practicing in our current productivity-obsessed, rushed, time crunched healthcare system can often put our patients’ needs at odds with the pressures we face as employed physicians. It is important to keep in mind that the reason we practice medicine is to help our patients, first and foremost.

Embarking on a journey with Southlake Regional Health Centre several years ago was akin to stepping into the nucleus of healthcare innovation. Guiding them through the intricacies of joint replacement process enhancements wasn't just about refining procedures; it was about contributing to a legacy of excellence. Now, witnessing Southlake's continued ascent as a pinnacle of healthcare leadership throughout Canada fills me with immense pride. Delving into the nuances of their reimbursement processes and metrics, I quickly realized that these weren't just figures on a spreadsheet; they were the pulse of Southlake's success. As I look back, it's evident that understanding these intricacies was pivotal in fortifying their path to greatness. Recently, I stumbled upon a piece of news that truly reaffirmed Southlake's position as a beacon of quality care. The American College of Surgeons' recognition of Southlake's meritorious patient outcomes for the second consecutive year underscores their unwavering commitment to excellence. Out of 615 participating hospitals, Southlake stood tall among the elite 78 institutions distinguished with this honor in 2022. As I reflect on my time with Southlake, it's heartening to see their unwavering commitment to excellence persisting year after year. Their tireless pursuit of superior patient outcomes isn't just commendable; it's inspiring. Here's to Southlake, a true embodiment of clinical excellence and compassionate care. https://lnkd.in/esiXKVjq

Piedmont Atlanta Ranked Best Hospital in Georgia; Top 5% in Nation for Overall Cardiac Care by Healthgrades Atlanta, Ga. (October 31, 2023) – Piedmont Atlanta has been ranked by Healthgrades as the best hospital in the state of Georgia and among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation for overall cardiac care. “Heart disease is one of the greatest health challenges Georgians face, and this recognition shows we are providing them the highest quality care close to home,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta. “I am proud of everyone who contributed to this important achievement.” Healthgrades analyzed data on patient outcomes from nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide to place Piedmont Atlanta in the top 5% for quality cardiac care. This is the second national recognition of the cardiovascular service line at Piedmont Atlanta in a matter of months. U.S. News & World Report recently listed Piedmont Atlanta as high-performing in cardiology, heart and vascular surgery as well. The publication also highlighted Piedmont Atlanta as one of the best hospitals overall in Georgia. U.S. News & World Report scores are based on several factors, including survival, patient safety, and nurse staffing. Honors for Piedmont Atlanta also came from Newsweek in its list of “America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2024,” as one of the state’s best. Newsweek compiled its rankings from four data sources: a nationwide online survey, quality metrics data, and patient experience. Additionally, some hospitals that participated in a Patient Reported Outcome Measures survey received a score in that category. Visit piedmont.org for more information about Piedmont.
