At Mozilla Africa Mradi, we believe technology should be a force for good, and that's why we put ethics and social good at the core of tech education. We're not just training the next generation of coders - we're fostering responsible technologists who understand the human impact of their creations. This includes a human-centered approach to emerging technologies like AI. Together with our partners at Moringa School and ICT Mashinani, We're equipping young people to consider the ethical implications and societal effects of AI, ensuring it serves humanity, not the other way around. #MozillaAfricaMradi #Firefox #OnlineSafety

NZ Tech Week this week, and looking through the events schedule, AI is definitely the big focus for a lot of folks, which is no surprise- 76 out of 208 events are AI related. The industry is focused on it for sure, but other than people using ChatGPT, I wonder how much of the public is really as gung-ho about AI? The geeks are into it because its interesting and technical, the corporations are into it because it's got the potential to make a lot of money and the competitions all doing it, so you'd be silly not to have a horse in the race. But there's a lot of aspects to this AI thing- safety, ethics, copyrights, digital equity, sustainability and economics, creativity, livelihoods and even extinction. TechWeek might be a good place to have a peek at some of these topics, but I think a lot of communities really need to get together and seriously look at the incoming direct and indirect impact of all of this tech that has and will infiltrate a huge part of people's every existence. On that note, happy techweek everyone 😂- I'm thinking of doing a special "Techweek NZ" TechNesian Live Stream edition this Thursday night to look at these events and the topics they're covering (not an event review as such, more looking at what people are talking about). Stay tuned. #technology #pasifika #software #softwaredeveloper #softwareengineer #linux #devops #techcareers #work #cybersecurity #cybersecurityawareness #technews #ai

Real-time computer vision at work transforming me into a digital being from the TikTok team at #ICCV2023 🇫🇷 Day three highlights ⬇️ 🗼 Best paper awards to the control net and passive ultra-wideband photo-imaging teams. (Stanford University and University of Toronto respectively) 🗼Set-level guidance attack which exploits multimodal models through transferable adversarial attacks and intricate cross-modal interactions. Very interesting technique and this track is a good reminder that security needs our focus. (Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), The University of Hong Kong, Monash University, Temple University) 🗼 Inclusive text-to-image generation, which uses vision to extract visual differences from images to make text-to-image models more inclusive and accurate. (Carnegie Mellon University, Google) So many other things to write about! I've also been really impressed with the diversity at the conference (more thoughts on this later), which has over 7,300 attendees. #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #computervision

Had a wonderful time chatting with CSIRO Education and Outreach this afternoon when asked to share some thoughts about Gen AI and emerging needs of education stakeholders. I ended up pleading that they convene a high level think-tank of industry, experts, and other stakeholders on drawing multiple possible paths forward for Australian education so our students can be tech leaders in future. Book out a convention center, call in the Federal and State education folks, the industry CEOs, the teachers, the students, the parents, all the experts, and have a major discussion. There will probably be a need to consider our economic policies, as well as discuss ways to mitigate potential risks and dangers of AI. (yes there are risks and dangers. They're not often mentioned, but they are there). The elephant in the room is of course the AGI. The world will change the day AGIs are mass-produced, but I still have faith that there will be a place for humans.... Or maybe just Sarah Connor. Jokes aside, it took about 10 years? to fully write up ACARA v9.0, and since then the world has changed significantly. OpenAI has quietly removed military uses from their ToS. Gemini ultra? Pro? now takes an insane one million tokens. Eventually copilot will gain access to all my emails and documents and become a super powerful Assistant. A future-oriented conversation about hard and soft skills students need to learn through school (and what they no longer need to learn - such as how to flip through a log table) is overdue. If I had a chance to be involved in such a conversation, my priority would be the soft skill of learning how to learn. If we do that well, our future generations will be fine. Thanks to the awesome folks at Csiro for the chance to share and sorry my plea was on such a large scale!

Years ago, a major US technology company missed out on the Mobile OS market which was quickly taken over by another US tech giant. The Global Mobile OS market was a $400 billion market at that time. Fast forward to present day, history is repeating itself as a new player has just taken over the Generative A.I market, from a market leader, who happened to have won the Mobile OS market in the first scenario previously mentioned at the start of the post. The A.I revolution is here, and it’s transforming industries quickly. How can African Edtechs particularly leverage it for the next generation of products for the continent and how can we harness it’s value to leap frog African education to the next frontier. Join me, and two exceptional African Founders Ope Bukola and Femi Ibiwoye as we discuss AI in African education today at 6:30 pm West African time at the PremiaBN Edu Online Interactive series. Click here https://lnkd.in/dfaEWf8g to RSVP and get the Zoom invite. P.S: Drop a comment if you know the three companies, I mentioned in the post. #edtech #education #aiineducation

Resolute CSE undergraduate with a strong determination to contribute positively to the tech landscape|Student at R.M.K Engineering College
Amped to share that recently I participated in my first ever 36-hour hackathon at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram! It was a fantastic experience, both competing in-person and virtually. I learned so much and came away with a project I'm truly passionate about: Silent Sentinel: Technology that Empowers, When Words Fail. Problem: Many people facing emergencies, including domestic violence victims, those with hearing or speech impairments, and individuals in high-stress situations, are unable to call for help verbally. Solution: Silent Sentinel is a real-time sign language detection system that identifies pre-defined emergency signs from various sign languages, including Indian Sign Language and universal signs(Signal For Help by 'The Canadian Women's Foundation'). Our team of four brainstormed intensely, and the diverse perspectives from my teammates really pushed me to consider new aspects and features for the model.I explored computer vision techniques for hand (mediapipe) and sign detection, and built custom machine learning models for gender classification and sign recognition using TensorFlow/Keras. Leveraging Teachable Machine by Google for fine-tuning the sign classification model was a great learning experience! Impact: This project can revolutionize safety in public areas (schools, elevators, jails, buses, supermarkets, orphanages, medical shops, local shops, airports, train stations, and government buildings, etc..) by ensuring timely intervention for vulnerable individuals . If you're interested in exploring the code and datasets behind Silent Sentinel, feel free to check out the project on my GitHub repository https://lnkd.in/gjUX4tbQ. #hackathon #signlanguage #technologyforgood
