Autism at Work 101: looking isn't listening. Autistic people often struggle to maintain eye contact. For autistic people, direct eye contact can feel threatening and uncomfortable. It is important to recognise that your autistic employees' lack of eye contact is not a lack of interest or engagement. Forcing eye contact can reduce an autistic person's ability to process information and cause distress. If you are unsure if an autistic person has understood you, simply ask. Don’t assume a lack of eye contact is a lack of understanding! #autismatwork #accessability #businesstips #managment

For Neurodiversity celebration week, we are resharing a webinar we hosted last year. Around 20% of the global adult population is neurodivergent, meaning they have a neurodiversity such as ADHD, Autism, or dyslexia. Approximately 1 in 7 people in the workforce may be neurodivergent – more than 15% of the UK population, but only 1 in 10 organisations say they consider neurodiversity in their people management practices. To be truly neuro-inclusive in the workplace, employers need to increase their awareness and appreciate the individuality of neurodiverse conditions through tangible support.
