Let's Talk: Professional Development Goals📝 Interns, setting goals as you learn to navigate the do's and don'ts of the workforce can be a great way to keep track of your progress. We know that entering unfamiliar spaces can be daunting, so we're here to share some of our 'go-to' tips for setting and accomplishing goals. Start with the acronyms S.M.A.R.T. Consider that your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. Next, brainstorm personalized goals. For some, this may look like volunteering yourself for speaking engagements that would enhance your leadership skills, and for others, this could look like expanding your professional network. It's important to write these goals down to make them clear for yourself and your mentor/supervisor. Finally, remember to track your progress and reflect on where you started, where you are now, and where you hope to be in the future. #CHIPs #ProfessionalDevelopment #InternAdvice #WeAreCHIPs

Founder of the Be You Stay True Program | Director of the Center for Leadership at the University of Mount Saint Vincent | Passionate about being a bridge to the youth to unlock their inner LEADER 🌹
Nothing better then seeing people that once led you, lead others. Not for the money or recognition, but just for the love. If you know Raymond Batkay, MBA, he's a legend and one of the few that keep it real ALWAYS. He's mentoring two young men I met this semester, Rawel Francisco & Miguel Velez. Both business administration majors trying to make the most of their senior year at the College of Mount Saint Vincent and ultimately life. This is what life is all about. Helping others succeed & mentoring them to make the best decisions possible. #MountMentors #LeadersLeadPeriod
So I’ve volunteered to be a part of the “Mount Mentors” program at the College of Mount Saint Vincent #cmsv. This is a program coordinated by my favez Andrew (Drew) Curiel, BS, MBs. This kid inspires me every day. His dedication to the school & the Bronx community at large is nothing less than true dedication and community leadership. The program connects business professionals (um… apparently I’m one) with students involved in the schools leadership program. Essentially I sit down with these young bucks and look over resumes, give them advice, ask questions about their goals and give them blueprints to build towards them. We meet; we chat.. we make a difference together. I’ll be showcasing them and a few others seeking internships and networking opportunities in the next few weeks. If you want the best new generation of coworkers you have to be a part of their development. As for me and Drew…we’ll keep leading by example

Leadership skills are like muscles. The more you use them, the stronger they get. And the best time to start building your leadership muscles is in college. College is a great time to get involved in extracurricular activities. These activities allow you to develop leadership skills. You can learn how to work with others, solve problems, and make decisions. You can also develop your communication and public speaking skills. Here are a few extracurricular activities that can help you develop your leadership skills: 🚀 Clubs and organizations: This is a great way to meet new people and make connections and a way to learn how to lead and motivate others. 🚀 Volunteering : A choice to give back to your community and learn about leadership in a real-world setting. 🚀 Internships: This is a great way to gain experience in a professional setting and learn from experienced leaders. So if you're serious about developing your leadership skills, get involved in extracurricular activities in college. It's the best way to learn and grow as a leader. #leadership #skill #skillset

Are you managing for the first time? Maybe an intern this summer? Here are a few things you can do to encourage your new hire to make the most of this experience: 1. Actively introduce them to other members of the organization to ensure that they are doing some internal networking. Offer some context on why you are connecting them to that person in particular and remind them to thank them for their time. 2. Prepare materials ahead of time. Not just their assignments, but internal documents going into the mission of the work, the impact of your approach, future goals of the organization, etc. Get them inspired and feeling like part of the team! 3. Get to know them as a human. Take them for lunch or coffee (even a virtual one) and ask them questions about who they are and what their goals are. It shouldn't feel like Interview: The Sequel, but a way to establish trust and communication! Looking for more tips? Sign up for Second Day's summer series with Caroline Ouwerkerk on managing for impact!

📜Embracing accountability consistently stands as the optimal choice in leadership. This post imparts several valuable takeaways: ↪️Servant leadership entails a style rooted in the eagerness to support and contribute to one's community. ↪️By prioritizing the needs of others, you empower individuals to excel in their endeavors. When community members witness your dedication and fervor in your actions, they naturally seek a connection with you. ↪️The essence of the servant leadership style lies in the belief that leaders are committed to advancing the collective welfare. ↪️Leaders who adopt this approach place the service of their team and organization at the forefront, without placing their personal objectives above all else.
