Many companies want to hire people who are invested in the idea of working with them. That’s why finding a genuine reason why you want to join the company (aside from money) can help your chances of getting hired. For example, let’s say you come into the interview and state you are there to get paid and bounce. But your competition, let’s call him John, says he’s a lifelong user of the company’s products and has always wanted to make them better. If you are both equally qualified for the role, it’s likely the hiring team will perceive you as more of a flight risk compared to John, which gives John the edge in the final analysis. I hate the games we have to play here. I wish we lived in a world where we could all say how we truly feel, but that’s not how the rules are set up when you’re in the workforce.
