What does cubism have to do with workplace learning in the age of AI? Check out the recording from my presentation at ASU+GSV Summit on how we're using storytelling to activate lateral thinking and develop key skillls workers need to thrive in the age of AI. Three main points on the intersection of storytelling and lateral thinking: 1. Stories told by amazing people from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds help us see the world and approach complex challenges from multiple vantage points. 2. Designing learning experiences that weave together a diverse tapestry of stories and voices can provoke surprise. Those moments of surprise disrupt our patterned ways of looking at the world and catalyze new imaginings. 3. Engaging with stories prompts self-reflection and metacognitive activity, which helps us become more aware of our patterned ways of thinking, and in turn, discover new ways of thinking and approaching challenges. #AI #GenerativeAI #WorkplaceLearning #SkillsDevelopment #LearningDesign #Creativity #TalentDevelopment #Storytelling

Thanks for sharing John Michael Scott, Ph.D.! I enjoyed the talk. Lateral thinking is so powerful, especially for leaders (current or rising leaders) who are likely to manage/support teams composed of people with very different world views, life experiences, and talents than themselves. In my own life, I use podcasts like this - what can I learn about topic X by listening to an episode about it from a marketing podcast? A data analysis podcast? A comedy podcast? A parenthood podcast?
Can’t wait to check it out, John Michael Scott, Ph.D.!
