We do this through actions like investing in human-centric AI -- which - sounds complicated, but isn't complicated - it's just putting you first, which plenty of businesses can and should do! - directing 30%+ of our strategic giving to youth mental health and emotional well-being organizations, and sharing what we get right with the industry as we continue to build and measure a safer, healthier internet. This month at Cannes Pinterest rolled out the Inspired Internet Pledge, created with the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children's Hospital as a call to action to tech companies to make the internet a healthier place for everyone, especially young people, who have grown up inundated in it all. For advertisers who aren't tech companies (most of my network, hello!) you can issue a statement of support to make the internet a healthier place for young people - promising that you'll (1) tune for wellbeing (2) listen and act and (3) commit to openness. Today I’m in the mood to take another trip down Memory Lane. Can you believe it's been more than 25 years since the Internet started creeping into our lives? And on this day in 1996, Yahoo! ran television ads in the US with the catchy tagline: "Do You Yahoo?" It’s the first real example of the internet hitting the mainstream. Back in '95, when Yahoo! burst onto the scene, it was the OG web services provider. From its humble beginnings in a dorm room to becoming a household name, Yahoo! was THE place to go for all your online needs. Whether you were checking the latest news, catching up on emails, or diving into the world of sports, Yahoo! had you covered. And let's not forget Yahoo! Search – the trusty sidekick that helped us navigate the vast expanse of the World Wide Web. Yahoo! was firmly at the forefront of the Internet boom in the '90s. But like all good things, its reign eventually came to an end as better ways of doing things emerged. Here's the deal: Social platforms change and some simply go away. If you're a brand communicator, you gotta accept this. There was this thing called "eWorld" once upon a time. Produced by AOL for Apple, it existed for a hot minute in 1994. I was one of the beta testers. (Technically, everyone on there was one because it never made it out of beta.) I have no idea what my handle was or who I interacted with there. it was an odd place among many sorta-Internet solutions before the full-on edition of the Web took off. I'm curious about each of these new places, spaces, and platforms because, well, it's my business as a communicator to understand each. (It's also my prerogative to determine how I *personally* engage, if at all, on any, some, or most.)
