Remote Work Is A Lot Of Work Right after school, I plunged deep into tech, with the hopes of getting a remote role. My reason was that I wanted to be able to be physically present for my husband and children in marriage, without sacrificing my career. I wanted to have some level of control of my location. In my mind’s eye, I saw myself having board meetings with important personalities on Zoom, from my workspace setup in my home. White walls, brown furniture and all. But remote work turned out to be something else. Something different. Something more stressful than any physical job I have ever had, in every sense of the word. Remote work has been the best thing for me as a parent. As a dad to two young girls, I’ve been blessed to: - See them grow up in front of me - Not miss their first word or steps - See them come into the office and play - Be there for medical & school appointments - Not miss quality time because of commuting - Take them to the park or restaurant during the daytime It is an invaluable experience for life. I have to thank my company for that. Choose your company and role wisely. There are remote jobs out there for every profession. It might mean a change in role or company. While having similar to better compensation. To quote my LinkedIn friend Jean Kang (thanks for the post inspiration): “No office perk can beat the benefits of remote work 🙏🏼.” *** PS. BUSINESS OWNER OR REMOTE WORKER As a business owner or remote worker, which do you prefer?
