We have had some phenomenal breakthroughs with Google AI in the last couple of weeks, changing the future of science and medicine. 1. Last week, Google DeepMind & Isomorphic Labs introduced #AlphaFold3, which can predict the structures and interactions of nearly all of life’s molecules with state-of-the-art accuracy including proteins, DNA, and RNA. This has incredible implications for understanding our core biology and revolutionizing drug discovery. 🧬 2. Google Research and a team of Harvard University neuroscientists mapped the first synapse-level images of the brain, reconstructing nearly every cell and all its connections within a small piece of brain tissue. This could help researchers dig deeper into neurological disorders and answer critical questions about how the brain works. We’ve made this 3D mapping freely available to the scientific community, and hope it unlocks even more discoveries. 3. We also published the results from our first Med-Gemini models - our new family of multimodal models for medicine. These models unlock new possibilities for health, like more accurate multimodal conversations about medical images, surgical videos, etc., up-to-date answers to medical questions with advanced reasoning, and long context abilities. These are remarkable accomplishments, and we are so proud of the teams that bring them to life. 🎊 I am always blown away by #AI's potential to impact critical fields like health and science. 2wAlphaFold3 research application sounds incredible, but I am fascinated by Med-Gemini's potential to bridge the communication gap in healthcare. Looking at the project Alpha demo video shown Yesterday, we are so, so close! It could (will) revolutionize patient-provider interaction and improve overall care, especially in areas where people don't have easy access to medical care.
