Reinforcement learning is a type of artificial intelligence and machine learning technique where an agent learns through trial and error by interacting with an environment. It involves an agent receiving rewards or punishments for its actions based on the outcomes of those actions, which then influences the agent's decision-making process during future interactions. Reinforcement learning can be used for tasks such as game playing, robotics, and natural language processing. The goal of this type of learning is to enable the agent to maximize its long-term reward by continuously improving its behavior based on feedback from the environment.
