It’s Friday …. Yay ! Thought we’d do something military today. No matter what anyone says we believe the A11 watch manufactured jointly in WW2 by Waltham, Elgin & Bulova was the first what has now become known as a Field Watch. However there were a number of iterations of the A11, so you will find A11s in the European Theatre with both the USAAF and a variation with the RAF, the model,shown here is rarer as it’s a FSSC-88-W-800 which denotes a US Navy pilots watch. As most of the war with Japan involved infantry and the US Navy and was fought in the Pacific over large stretches of water and small Islands so most US Navy pilots operated from Flat Top Aircraft Carriers or were based at Pearl Harbour. If only watches could talk this could tell a story we’re sure ! How many of you have heard of a US Air Force Combat Controller? It's not a job that's well known inside the military, let alone to those outside the service. But these unsung heroes are a special forces cadre that doesn't get all the glory the Navy Seals or Delta Force gets, but their contribution to dynamic battlefield environments is equally significant. U.S. Air Force Combat Controllers (CCTs) are highly trained special operations forces and FAA-certified air traffic controllers. Their primary role is to deploy into combat and austere environments to establish and control airfields, manage air traffic, and coordinate air support. While their primary mission is airfield and traffic control, CCTs are also trained in direct action, reconnaissance, and personnel recovery. They often participate in offensive raids and defensive operations alongside other special operations forces. And that's precisely what John Chapman's mission was in Afghanistan on March 2, 2002. His actions earned him the Medal of Honor twice over and his courage is a testament to the unbreakable America warrior ethos. We couldn't pay any man enough money to live up to John Chapman's memory, so instead we just put a guy in a t-shirt we designed to honor and remember him.
