Questioning the Adequacy of One Level 1 Trauma Center in Westchester County: Is it Enough? As a healthcare leader with a passion for optimizing patient care, I can't help but wonder: Is one Level 1 Trauma Center truly sufficient for the needs of our community? Let's dive into the data: According to recent research, Westchester County relies heavily on Westchester Medical Center as the region's sole Level 1 Trauma Center. While this center undoubtedly provides critical care services, questions arise about its capacity to effectively serve the entire population of our county and neighboring regions. 🏥 Consider this: With a population of nearly 1 million residents in Westchester County alone, along with the influx of visitors and commuters, the demand for trauma care services is substantial. Factor in the geographic spread of our communities, and accessibility becomes a pressing concern. 🌟 It's not just about numbers; it's about access to timely and high-quality care when every second counts. As a healthcare community, we must critically assess whether one Level 1 Trauma Center is adequate to meet the diverse and dynamic needs of our population. 💬 I invite fellow healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community advocates to join the conversation: Do we need to explore the possibility of additional trauma care resources? How can we ensure equitable access to trauma care services for all residents of Westchester County and beyond? #TraumaCare #HealthcareEquity #CommunityWellness #DataDrivenDecisions #PublicHealth #HealthcareInnovation #CommunityHealth #WestchesterCounty #TraumaCenter #HealthcareLeadership #westchestercounty #nyc #ny #follow #like #healthcareequity #equity #entrepreneur #motivation #healthcare

Amazing story of strong leadership & teamwork - check out these stats
Providing strategic insight to the healthcare C-suite and board. | Thought Leader | Keynote Speaker | Strategist | Economist | Culture Guru | Finder and Communicator of "True North"
There is so much bad news on the provider side right now, particularly in more rural parts of the country, so I am taking a moment to share some incredibly good news. One of the best health systems in the land, WVU Medicine, run by CEO Albert Wright and his exceptional team, took over extremely troubled Reynolds Memorial Hospital just outside Wheeling, West Virginia (population 26k) in 2015 as it was, by all accounts, about to close shop forever. Feast your eyes - and indeed your souls - on the results below. I just did their board retreat onsite. It is now a vibrant place, in service to the community, and please note has added birthing, behavioral health beds and infusion services.

Dr Minesh Patel, GP and NAPC Non-Executive Director attended the Frimley Health and Care Integrated Care System ‘Inspiring Primary Care Transformation’ event last week to lead two sessions on ‘Population Health and Communities – Integrated Neighbourhood Teams’. Minesh said: “We had a very engaging discussion on population health improvement and making neighbourhood care real, looking at the keys to success including working upstream and the importance of activating teams and activating residents. "We discussed examples of simple upstream interventions around common underlying drivers of health demand such as diabesity and effective and enabling wellbeing interventions such as singing groups, supporting people living with frailty and the impact and ended on the benefits of the group consultations model as a way of engaging and activating people with some examples from my practice. “Frimley is a dynamic ICS with some local challenges, but they realise the importance of improving working lives and are taking positive steps to doing this. They have well established population data and analysis that they are actively using which is really positive. It was great to see Professor Claire Fuller there talking about neighbourhood care and Dr Phil Wallek, one of the Primary Care Home leaders from Lewes also talking about the importance on real team working and benefits of demand and capacity planning around keeping well.” There are some examples of case studies focusing on population health improvement on the NAPC website: https://lnkd.in/daqyuCSP

Happy Monday! Being a #fundraiser as much as its about raising funds (clue in the title); ultimately it's about impact. The difference we can help make with the support of our #communities. Corporate #donations from businesses have enabled us to achieve some fantastic things for our Hospitals across Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. A few weeks ago, I posted about the #RAPTOR Appeal that NorthCare Charity has been raising funds for – a specially designed theatre to treat multi-trauma patients with life-threatening injuries. A one-stop shop for treating the most serious of patients - like Mary, whose chances of survival would have been significantly improved had the RAPTOR Theatre been available. Mary's story highlighted that time is of the essence after a serious injury and that the location of the RAPTOR Theatre is crucial. Here is some fantastic footage of the magnitude of the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital. The RAPTOR Theatre will be housed directly below the helipad, meaning that patients only need to travel the shortest distance, which will ultimately save lives. This is just one project in which our corporate partners' energy, enthusiasm and generosity help NorthCare make a real #difference to patient care in our hospitals and community services. We are privileged to work with a range of businesses that share our vision to do more for our patients and their families every day; why don't you join us? #Corporate partnerships with NorthCare are precisely that – #partnerships. When we collaborate with a business, it's a mutually beneficial, two-way relationship. So, whether you are looking to motivate and inspire your employees, develop your brand profile, create great PR or cement your commitment to the local community, it makes sense to be talking to NorthCare Charity. If I pop up in your DM's or you receive an email from me, let's start a conversation - together we can make a real and lasting #impact!
Here is some amazing footage showing the magnitude of the new Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital development in all its glory to help brighten up a very wet Monday morning! Once up and running it will receive major trauma patients from across Greater Manchester, for example, people who have been involved in a serious road traffic accident or life-changing fall. Congratulations to Curtin Colleague Tina (Christina) Fernandes and Fiona Stanley Hospital Senior Social Worker Dani Schalk on publishing their scoping review - the literature suggests "there are missed opportunities for meaningful work with perpetrators of DFV in a hospital setting and highlights a disjuncture between policy and practice." family caregiver - 93 year old Mom came home; social scientist - mostly interested in the growing catastrophe in elder care; certified project manager; artist - perpetual cards; writer; musician
At present there is no system for specifying the work assignment that is being passed from health providers to families who take up the role and responsibility of providing in-home caregiving for family members who can no longer fend for themselves. In the moment of health crisis, families are taking on the work of family care responders to ensure the health and well being of their family member, including receiving medical instructions from the health provider. There is no specific planning for traceable work goals, measurable outcomes, or accountability. There is no organization for reporting results, acknowledging milestones, revising plans to adjust to changing conditions, or formally closing out the family caregiving service when it is no longer needed. We are turning private family homes into extensions of healthcare delivery service without any organizational or operational frameworks or infrastructure to ensure the health and wellbeing of the family caregiving resource. We need families to prepare for family caregiving the way they prepare for fires, earthquakes and floods - the need for a family to turn into a team of family care responders is predictable and can have a catastrophic impact on the health and well-being of families. This is an issue of a failure of social systems, not individual caregivers and their families. https://lnkd.in/gq4W-g2e
‘Family’ means something different to every person needing and receiving care. Discovering who a patient’s or client’s family or primary support people are, helps to clarify who is available to partner with the care team. Health care professionals frequently interact with family and friend caregivers, but what is the value of including family and friend caregivers in the care team and planning? FCBC has developed a short guide for Health Care Professionals titled, 'Strengthening Family Partnerships in the Care Team' - https://lnkd.in/gVeZAbp7...
