Malaysia Pavilion An idea struck while visiting pasar malam at my neighbourhood. Osaka is known as Japan's Kitchen, and similarly, we propose the Malaysia Pavilion as the Kitchen of the World Expo. What better means to showcase Malaysia than through our rich and diverse food culture? The pavilion will be designed to replicate the vibrant atmosphere of a typical Malaysian night market, featuring a multitude of kiosks. While assembling a large number of hawkers to prepare our favourite street foods at the World Expo might not be practical, our alternative approach involves capturing the sounds of the preparation of our favourite street foods and the ambient surroundings. This approach aims to provide visitors with a sensory experience, allowing them to immersing them in the vibrant ambience atmosphere of a Malaysian night market. Its symphony of our night market. Economist Intelligence Corporate Network were invited to speak at #ITLMAsiaPacific Opening Forum. Was great to speak to folks attending the conference - luxury travel (and travel in general) seems to have bounced back "revenge style" in Southeast Asia. Here are some numbers: - Thailand is seeing a boom luxury hotels. Retailer Central Group has plans to invest about $580m in its hotel business, including the Centara Hotels & Resorts brand. - In #Bangkok, The Standard has opened and The Ritz-Carlton (a Marriott International brand) is opening. The Park Hyatt (Hyatt Hotels Corporation) opened in #Jakarta as the city's first six-star hotel. - Spending this year on luxury hotels should surpass pre-pandemic levels (though how much of that is inflation related is hard to say) What's your favourite luxury travel stat? As TFWA (Tax Free World Association) Asia Pacific Exhibtion and Conference comes to a close, our Beauty Buyer Chloe Wade reports back on her five key impressions after attending this year’s event to meet with our brand and cruise line partners • There is a healthy optimism around travel retail growth and return, both in the Asia Pacific region and globally • There is a positive appetite for exploring and buying luxury goods amongst travellers, as premium experiences are bucking some of the global economic challenges • Customer experience matters more than ever, not just in creating hugely important brand theatre but in the importance of face of face contact and delivering something more personal and bespoke to guests through customer facing teams. • Finding reasons to connect and engage needs to be a core strategy with captive audiences and new to cruise customers post pandemic. Switching from people’s heavy online retail reliance to the pleasures of learning about and exploring products in a live environment is exciting and full of potential to sell and build loyalty • Re-energising the cruise sector and the retail part of that to the APAC region is a fascinating challenge, and meeting with brands to arrange local level supply was rewarding and a sign of the strong growth potential to come It was great to be back in Singapore after four years of no live event of scale in the region, and really positive to see the strong supportive turn out from attendees.
