My education and leadership development work centers support-focused practice, so hearing Aja Anderson’s heart today about her community commitment to support made it feel as if we were not meeting for the very first time. As she shared the impact of the work she leads as CEO of the The Wellbeing Partners, I couldn’t help but smile for the future of our city. We have so many people working deeply across fields to push for change for the greater good 🙌🏽 I am personally excited for how The Wellbeing Partners are using facilitation, advocacy, and education to partner with the community to foster wellness and community thriving 👏🏽 👏🏽 The evaluator in me appreciates their administration of the Community Health Needs Assessment to inform the creation of our Community Health Improvement Plan. It came as no big surprise when Aja shared that the outcomes across the board for the Metro Region point to the need for a central focus on mental health. It’s 2024!!!! Let’s start the year off right ! 📢 Calling all agencies and universities who work with social workers and therapists! 🌟 One topic I'm incredibly passionate about is engaging Black Men in therapy and promoting the recruitment and retention of Black Men in Social Work. As a result, I now use my therapist skills to help teach and mentor students and supervisees on the power of self-care, wellness, and task prioritization. ⚡️ In order to create clinically sound and ethical social workers, it's crucial that we prioritize our own self-care, personal wellness, and mental health. After all, how effective can we be if we're exhausted and burnt out? ❓ Think about it this way: you wouldn't drive a car if you were sleep-deprived, right? Last week, I had the honor of collaborating for the second time with the team behind the FACES for Women ERG at Clear Channel Outdoor.   Our first virtual event in August was created to support parents and create open conversation around the unique challenges they face during back-to-school season and beyond. This month --the ERG leaders were intentional in wanting to build an event around World Mental Health Day -- with a focus on the message "It's OK to not be OK." Kudos-beyond-kudos to the leadership team behind FACES for Women at CCO - including Kayla Mazzarini, Chiara Jaramillo, Tamara Desrosiers, Sam Kreidenweis, Jeremy Plymette, Preeya Panketh, Michelle Costa, Shubha Goenka, Sharon Virk and Dan Rossi - and the entire Steering Committee -- for your no-detail-missed approach to these events. What a privilege to know you and collaborate with you - and how lucky the team members are at Clear Channel Outdoor to have you advocating for these safe-space conversations. Here's to acknowledging that people are enduring more than just tackling their to-do list at work. Here's to creating more spaces for team members to know they are seen for more than just the number of hours they clock. Here's to conversations about mental health no longer being taboo anywhere.
