Nonprofit Email Marketing Consultant 💌 Helping nonprofits raise more funds with email.👩👧 Mom advocating for work/life harmony.
"All email is junk mail these days." That's what my dad said when we started talking shop this weekend. My dad is an owner of a direct mail print shop. He was in fundraising for the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) for over a decade before he started his printing business. I agree, there are a TON of emails in everyone's inbox these days... but there's a big difference, and competitive advantage that nonprofits have. Nonprofits are changing the world. They're not just sending emails to promote the next sale, or get people to spend money on more stuff they don't need. They are selling IMPACT. They are selling the opportunity to solve problems, to help people that truly need it. So the next time you hear that there are too many emails being sent. Think about what sets you apart. Think about how you can add value to the person on the other side. They GET to help your cause. They GET to be a part of something bigger then themselves. So no, it's not just more "junk mail" or spam. It's important communication that is worthy of space in the inbox.
That advice is spot on, Katelyn! Yes, donors signed up to hear from your organization, so remember that every time you send a message. As long as you have a balanced mix of communication and cultivation emails in conjunction with fundraising appeals, you're in good shape!
Great stuff Katelyn Baughan!
So true! You have he benefit of being able to share so many things beyond whatever businesses are usually selling. The possibilities are endless
