26th January 2024 - National Fun at Work Day Creating laughter and good vibes while tackling tasks, the office can be a playground of camaraderie, where work and play intermingle. “Work” and “Fun” are two words that most people would not typically expect to find together in any situation, but this certainly doesn’t have to be the way it is! Those people who have bright spirits and a dedication to keeping their lives joyful and full of light can find ways to make anything fun. Even work! In fact, work can be a very satisfying part of life. Even if it’s just enjoying time with coworkers throughout the day so that work isn’t such a grind, this is a great day to be more intentional about having loads of fun. As an Administrative staff, each week presents its own unique set of challenges. From unscheduled assignments to backlogs, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted. However, how we choose to approach the week can make all the difference in our mindset and productivity. This is not exclusive to any specific field; everyone faces these challenges in their way. Acknowledging this shared experience can help us feel less alone in our struggles. For me, I tackle each day and week as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Here are three things I do 👇 --I firmly believe in planning. By prioritizing and setting clear goals, I can approach each day with a focused mindset. --Staying organized. Taking the time to organize my tasks and responsibilities is a crucial aspect of effective administration. Clearing out my desk and sorting tasks based on urgency and importance allows me to start each day on the right foot. By addressing urgent matters first, I can prevent feeling disoriented or confused about where to begin. ---Maintaining a positive attitude. This plays a significant role in how I approach my work. Being a source of enthusiasm and encouragement for both myself and my colleagues has a ripple effect. It helps create a more vibrant and motivated work environment, that encourages productivity and collaboration. By taking intentional steps, we can ensure we start each day and week with clarity, focus, and determination. Today is 'Fun at Work Day'! It's a day dedicated to bringing joy and happiness into the workplace. It's a great opportunity to take a break from the stresses of work and enjoy some fun activities with your co-workers. At 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩 𝐈𝐓 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, It is always important to build a positive and enjoyable work culture, and spending time with employees can definitely contribute to that. It gives everyone a chance to relax and socialize outside of the usual work setting, fostering stronger relationships and camaraderie among team members. It also provides an opportunity for managers and employees to get to know each other on a more personal level, which can lead to increased trust and communication in the workplace. Remember, having fun at work can help boost morale, improve productivity, and strengthen relationships with your colleagues. Be prepared for a ramp-up period when your team gets back, but know that with the right guidance, they’ll be at their best before you know it

In Richard Templar's rule of work, rule 1.8 states "Enjoy what you do" further "having a good time at work and realizing work is good isn't same thing". One is driven by performance and attainment of goals while the later is driven by less work, fun times and not much productively. It's easy to mix up both. Having a good time at work entails enjoying the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with the work understanding that you are up to it and giving your best to each task as it comes. Managing your teams to success and resolving those issues one at a time. A good time at works builds you and streghtens you for what is to come. I wish you a good time at work this week!

We are trialling a four day work week for some team members. I cannot think of another decision I have made which has received such a variety of responses This made me curious So I have been actively telling people to hear their reaction Some react very negatively. The main objection being that those on a four day week work 20% less than those on a full five days To me this implies that the relationship between hours and output is roughly linear I am not sure that is the case? Particularly for the development team. In software development: is it always true that “more hours = more / better code"? At what point does the curve flatten out? I am not certain. That’s why we are trialling something different Others I talk to are very much in favour of it… which is wonderful for my confirmation bias (ha ha) What surprised me is that people’s opinion of a four day work week cannot be accurately predicted by their age - which I wrongly thought would be a strong predictor of their opinions For now, the four day week seems to keep those team members happy, productive and with the company...
