Here's to the goof-ups and mess-ups... Reflecting on Sunday night's Oscars, where Robert Downey Jr. snagged his first Oscar after a cinematic journey of over 50 years, I couldn't help but see a parallel with my own career in sales and marketing. With 30+ years in the game, I've had my share of missteps and learned lessons, much like Downey's storied path to success. Here's the thing: mistakes aren't just mishaps; they're the gritty sandpaper that smooths us into the polished professionals we become. Each slip-up in my career has been a step towards understanding what truly matters in servicing clients and delivering value. Downey joked about thanking his "terrible childhood" in his acceptance speech, and in a way, I thank my professional blunders. They've taught me resilience, empathy, and the fine art of bouncing back—a skillset as critical in Hollywood as it is in sales and marketing. So, here’s to the mess-ups, the goof-ups, and the outright failures! They’re not just stumbling blocks but stepping stones on our path to success. Pete Reeves, it's been an amazing year having you on board! 🌟 I still remember that interview a year ago. Peter's passion and dedication was evident from the start. We agreed on a three-month probation period, and boy, did he shine. It was only fair to wait until he officially joined our ranks before singing his praises. Peter and I spend Mondays together, diving deep into business development strategies, dissecting marketing plans, and dissecting industry trends. But it's more than just work; it's a genuine collaboration fuelled by mutual respect and friendship. What truly makes Peter stand out is his authenticity and the treasure trove of experience he brings to the table. He's not just a colleague; he's a mentor and an inspiration. Unlocking Success with Dave Bailey: A Mentorship Journey. I met a man named Dave Bailey when I was in my late twenties.  When I look back over my life, I realize that he was my most influential mentor, who shaped my approach to business and life. From co-founding Iomega (one of Utah’s first multi-billion-dollar companies) to transforming Wicat (where I met another significant influence on my life and career, Bob Mendenhall) into a tech powerhouse and building countless other technology companies, his wisdom echoes in every decision I make to this day. Key Lessons that I learned from Dave: **Embrace challenges head-on: In a fire, walk through it, don't try to run away from it or walk around it. A direct approach in solving hard problems gets you to the other side faster. **Speak your truth: Uncomfortable or not, honesty wins. You might lose an occasional battle, but you will always win the war by staying true to your values. **Trust your instincts: Age and gender don't limit your voice. Even in a room of giants, your opinions matter. **Bounce back from failure: Don't let setbacks define you. Learn, adapt, and move on to the next big deal. Dave also impacted me on a personal level.  I asked Dave once what the most important secret to his success was. He said, 'Figuring out my personal life early on and maintaining stability with my wife and family allowed me to pour extraordinary effort into building companies and wealth." Dave didn't just talk about passion in building companies and technologies; he lived it.  Working with Dave was a joy.  He valued the people that worked for him and had a little bit of a sarcastic sense of humor and made even working through hard problems fun. I am forever grateful for the invaluable tools—both professional and personal—that I learned from this giant of a man that continue to shape my everyday life.
