Our world was not built to include people living with a disability. As we mark International Day of People with Disability, it is timely to stop and consider the barriers people with low vision or blindness have to navigate. A recent survey by EY Sweeney commissioned by Guide Dogs Australia found: - 9 in 10 people with low vision or blindness use online devices, but more than three quarters encountered regular obstacles when using devices to access the internet. - One in three respondents said this was because of accessibility issues. This International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), help us be online allies for people who have low vision or blindness. To celebrate this important day, we have made a short video featuring six of our wonderful Guide Dogs Victoria team members with lived experience advocating for accessibility, diversity and inclusivity. Please share! #IDPwD #GuideDogsVictoria #Accessibility #InternationalDayOfPeopleWithDisability #IDPwD23
Happy International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)! Held on 3 December each year, IDPwD aims to increase public awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions. This year, we’re calling on Australians to be online allies for people who have low vision or blindness. The good news is all Australians can help make the internet a more inclusive space! Read our accessibility tips that you can implement online and discover resources on our website: https://lnkd.in/gfmXJcYx [Video description: The video features a series of Guide Dogs Victoria staff, many of whom have lived experience, standing or sitting in front of the camera, each speaking about the importance of disability inclusion. The video begins with Disability Advocate Karan Nagrani who is holding a white cane. The video then transitions to Guide Dogs Victoria CEO Nicky Long, followed by Fundraising Team Member Erin Goedhart, Human Resources Partner Prudence Betros, Fundraising Team Member Melaine Robinson, Customer Service Team Member Lauren Gay and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Team Member Stacey Gardiner. The video then transitions back to Karan Nagrani and once more to Nicky Long.] #IDPwD #GuideDogsAustralia #Inclusion #Accessibility #InternationalDayOfPeopleWithDisability #IDPwD23

BOMA San Francisco is Celebrating Disability Pride Month! July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor and amplify the voices, experiences, and achievements of people with disabilities. Let's come together to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and diversity of the disabled community. Disability is not a barrier, but a unique part of who we are. During this month, let's promote inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for everyone. Let's strive for a world where every person is valued and empowered, regardless of their abilities. Share your stories, your triumphs, and your dreams. Let's raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and foster a more inclusive society. Ahead of #DisabilityPride month, I joined my peers at the annual meeting of the Presidents’ Council on Disability Inclusion in Philanthropy and am reminded about how critical it is to find ways for foundations and philanthropy-serving organizations to meaningfully integrate disability within all of our work. To hold ourselves accountable, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has signed on to the #DisabilityInclusionPledge, an invitation from the Disability & Philanthropy Forum to commit to moving toward a future of inclusion and equity for all. By signing this pledge, we commit to eight distinct actions designed to center the perspectives of disabled people and deepen our understanding of disability. I found the Forum’s benchmarking survey particularly helpful to understand what has worked within other organizations and where leaders can consider starting. You can find that here: https://lnkd.in/emDSYmWS I'd love to hear from you: Where are you or your organization regarding your work to fully include people with disabilities in your work? What steps have you taken that you would recommend to others who are just starting out? Are you a philanthropy or a philanthropy-serving organization? If so, join us in signing the pledge - link below. https://lnkd.in/eW575kwN #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityPride #HealthEquity #DisabilityInclusion
