We're hopeful that the new kidney transplant model announced today by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will address persistent inequities. Tragic statistics from the press release: 🔴 Approximately 30% of donor kidneys go unused annually 🔴 Transplant wait times average 3-5+ years 🔴 In 2023, 90,000 people were on a waitlist but only 28,000 transplants were performed #nephrology #chronickidneydisease #ckd #endstagerenaldisease #esrd Increasing Organ Transplant Access (IOTA) Model | CMS https://hubs.li/Q02wBWbg0

End Stage Renal Disease is a chronic kidney ailment that generally culminates in kidney failure. In such a scenario, a kidney transplant is the ideal treatment. However, given the low availability of kidneys or kidney donors, dialysis is the only other alternative. Unfortunately, both transplantation and dialysis have their own limitations and come with high risk of morbidity and mortality. Bio Artificial Kidney is a refreshingly new alternative which overcomes all those limitations, and mimics almost all the functionalities of a natural kidney. https://lnkd.in/g7H28eBk #KauveryHospital #RenalTreatment #Nephrology #ImplantableBioArtificialKidney #Innovation #InnovativeHealthcare #ArtificialKidney #KidneyHealth #KidneyCare #Healthcare

Excited to share that my recent article on medication non-adherence among pediatric liver transplant recipients has just been published! In this study, we aimed to shed light on an important aspect of pediatric liver transplantation—the challenge of medication non-adherence. Our findings highlight the significance of understanding the factors contributing to non-adherence in this vulnerable population. It is no secret that medication non-adherence can have serious consequences, especially in the context of liver transplantation. Our research uncovers potential barriers to adherence, such as complex medication regimens, adverse side effects, and psychosocial factors. By identifying these obstacles, we hope to develop targeted interventions that can improve adherence rates and ultimately enhance transplantation outcomes in pediatric patients. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible team of researchers, healthcare professionals, and participants who made this study possible. Working with guidance of Prof Ali Malekhosseini, the father of liver Transplant in Iran, in this project is a true honor for me and was truly impressive. 📢 Debunking Myths and Sharing Facts about Kidney Transplantation! 🩺💚 👥 Tag someone who needs to know this! ✨ Myth or Fact? Let's separate truth from fiction when it comes to kidney transplantation. 🧐💡 🚫 Myth 1: "Only immediate family members can donate kidneys." ❌ 💡 Fact: While family members are often the best match due to genetic similarities, non-related individuals can also donate kidneys through living or deceased organ donation programs. Compatibility tests ensure a successful transplant! 🚫 Myth 2: "Kidney transplants are risky and have a low success rate." ❌ 💡 Fact: Kidney transplantation is a well-established procedure with high success rates. Advances in surgical techniques, immunosuppressive medications, and post-operative care have significantly improved patient outcomes, enhancing the quality of life for recipients. 🚫 Myth 3: "I won't be able to live a normal life after a kidney transplant." ❌ 💡 Fact: Post-transplant, recipients often experience a remarkable improvement in their quality of life. While they must take immunosuppressants and follow certain precautions, they can lead fulfilling lives, pursuing their dreams, careers, and enjoying their favorite activities. 🚫 Myth 4: "Kidney transplantation is only for the young." ❌ 💡 Fact: Age alone does not disqualify someone from receiving a kidney transplant.
